lilacattak's Full Review: Sid Meier's Civilization 2 for Windows
I've been playing Civ1 and 2 on and off since I was about ten years old (I'm 22 now), it's genuinely the best game I have ever played. It has it all- warfare between rivaling nations in a very strategic format, city management and planning (do I defend my nation and build a catapult, or help develop culture with a library?, and so on), and you learn about history in the process. Be a Ghengis Khan-type and crush your enemies, or be a Gandhi-type and toss out peace treaties like there's no tomorrow. It's your choice, since you're the leader of your nation.
Many reviews I have read online seem to appreciate the new look and features of Civilization 3, but playing it pretty much reminded me that its predecessors really don't need any updating or changing, unless you really dislike 1990s-style graphics or midi music. Since you can usually get Civ2 for a penny plus shipping on Amazon.com (Civ3, at its cheapest, is $2.49 plus shipping now), and 2 and 3 are basically the same in terms of format, I suppose there's no harm in trying both anyway :)
