If you are a Monopoly fan than this version is an absolute must! We are a family of 5 with three children ranging from 6-10. We all play Monopoly and find it a fantastic family game. The new electronic banking version is a novelty. It is great using the cards and not having money getting mixed up (it can be difficult to fit 5 people evenly around a square table!).

It was difficult at first to get used to using the cards, once or twice we added money instead of taking it off, but you get the hang of it very quickly. The kids worked it out faster then we did. It helps to speed up the game and working in millions instead of hundreds is also a challenge. The card system works easier than I first thought. Each card is colour coded and numbered to make it easy to tell which one is yours. The game comes with a handheld machine that 'adds' and 'removes' money from your card. One side is for adding and the other side is for removing. At the start of every game you reset the card reader or 'bank' as we call it, and each card then has the starting amount loaded onto it. As you move around the board and collect money from community chest, chance or go, you place your card into the '+' side of the machine and enter the amount required. The machine then adds the money to your card and makes the coolest counting sound - the more you add the longer it counts! The same is done for having to pay money to the bank, except you place the card in the '-' side of the machine. When you are giving money to another player, such as paying rent, the payee's card goes in the '-' side and the person's card who is accepting the money goes in the '+' side. You then enter the amount being paid and the machine automatically takes the money from one player and gives it to the other. The kids love doing this and the noise it makes is great fun, especially when the rent is high!
I was initially worried that the use of credit cards might be teaching the kids bad habits, but you still can't spend what you don't have on the card. It also brought up the subject of credit cards with the older two and we explained how they worked in the real world. They both think that people are crazy for spending money and having to pay back more later!!!!
This game is worth the money if you are looking for a good family game for more than 4 people, and you never know where you will end up with this game. We always have a different winner and the kids are now finally getting better at wheeling and dealing.
