| some_guy5's Full Review: Hasbro Star Wars Episode III Count Dooku Action Fi... |
Vader's predecessor and another of Emperor Palpatine's ill fated apprentices (I am presuming since Vader takes his spot in line). Count Dooku is an essential piece of your bad guy ensemble. He has already treated Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin both like whipping boys in Attack of the Clones but is there any payback in store?
Count Dooku is part of collection number 2 in the Revenge of the Sith series. Like all my figures this one stays in the package, so you aren't going to get any played with experience. Figure number 13, Count Dooku is another under-developed (well you know he used to be a Jedi but how and why exactly did he go bad?) villain along the lines of Darth Maul, but he doesn't have Darth Maul's instant wicked coolness. What he does have is the kind of demeanor that could reasonably convince all kinds of systems to rebel against the republic. He also has the added bonus ability to move about among the normal folks. Can you picture Darth Maul doing anything other than lightsabering people, or maybe threatening to lightsaber them?
The text in this paragraph will be common throughout all of my reviews of Star Wars Episode III basic characters. As far as the durability of these figures, well I don't open them. But I did open some from Episode I and I can tell you from past experience that the small weapons and accessories will get lost. As a boy I tried so hard to keep track of them and just failed. Slowly but surely the guns and lightsabers disappeared. By and large the figures are durable. The heads can be popped off by abuse or a determined push, and the hands can be chewed until they no longer function. That is my best guess as to how well this series will hold up.
Count Dooku stands 3.75 inches tall. He must not be quite as bad as Vader because he is clothed in all brown. The figure is made of multi-colored hard plastic, with a brown cloth cape secured around his neck by a silver chain. The arms appear to have joints at the shoulders, elbows, and wrists. This is my third straight review to point out how much better I like cloth capes than the molded plastic ones. That applies again here. His cape hangs nicely and doesn't stick up awkwardly in any places. The cape is a lot less substantial than Vader's. He must not want to get caught up in it while wreaking havoc on the galaxy. Count Dooku is carrying his signature red lightsaber with the crooked handle. Everyone has to have a thing, his is a lightsaber with a bent handle. This figure has a distinct difference over the others I have reviewed thus far. His face is showing, no helmet. The detail on the face is incredible for a figure of this size. I can see the bags under his eyes, the knobs of his cheekbones, and the hollows of his cheeks. Count Dooku does not have a signature move, but he does come with a terrain base. This should help you recreate the ambience of the game, and get him to stand securely. His left hand is molded into that position that looks like when he tried to bring down the house on Yoda in Attack of the Clones. While Count Dooku's only small piece is a lightsaber, this figure is still not recommended for children under the age of four due to choking hazard.
Count Dooku starts the Clone Wars and puts a vicious hurt on a lot of Jedi. All of this is done at the bidding of his master, Darth Sideous. Dooku's days are presumably numbered since we know that Anakin is due to become Darth Vader, and Darth Sideous' apprentice. Count Dooku's bio from the package is as follows...
Count Dooku is the leader of the Separatist movement. A renegade Jedi, Dooku has torn apart the Galaxy with his plan to bring down the Republic. He is known as Darth Tyranus, a Dark Lord of the Sith
Well for now at any rate. Dooku is giving a lot of people a lot of grief and I am anxious to see him get his, even if it is only at the hands of his replacement.
I recommend you get this figure. He is a pretty major part of the movies and the details on his figure are top notch. He falls somewhere in the middle of my list as far as desirable Episode II collectibles.
