Super Battle Droid was first introduced in Attack of the Clones. They are the more competent and more deadly versions of the mass produced regular battle droids, a spot I thought was held by Destroyer Droids but whatever. These droids, along with regular strength battle droids, make up the bulk of the Separatist forces. Super Battle Droid seems to have a little attitude wired in to his programming. During the arena battle on Geonosis one of the Super Battle Droids bashed aside one of his smaller brethren who had gotten in the way of his shooting Jedi. Like the Clone troopers, you may find yourself wanting more than one Super Battle Droid if you intend to play with your figures.
In terms of looks, I think Super Battle Droid is a big improvement over his predecessors. Super Battle Droid is figure number 4 and a member of the collection number 1 in the Revenge of the Sith series. While Super Battle Droid was easy to find, I choose to leave him safely in the box. This figure is not recommended for children under the age of four because the small pieces can be a choking hazard. As far as the durability of this series of figures, well I don't open them. But I did open some from Episode I and I can tell you from past experience that the small weapons and accessories will get lost. As a boy I tried so hard to keep track of them and just failed. Slowly but surely the guns and lightsabers disappeared. By and large the figures are durable. The heads can be popped off by abuse or a determined push (for those with heads that rotate), and the hands can be chewed until they no longer function. That is my best guess as to how well this series will hold up.
Super Battle Droid is 3.75 inches tall. One thing I note immediately on this figure is its lack of a head, or anything resembling one. It has a beak-like slightly reminiscent of the regular battle droids but it is a fused part of his torso and does not move around. I also don't see anything resembling eyes. There is no reason for robots to be built like humans anyway. The figure is blue and made from molded plastic. Super Battle Droid has joints at the shoulders, elbows, and hips. Instead of an action move or terrain base, Super Battle Droid has an interchangeable arm. The arm attached in the package is a large cannon that actually fires a plastic "blaster bolt". To fire you simply press a button on the outside of the shoulder. The replacement arm is more like the other non replaceable limb. It has a hand on the end and a blaster built into the forearm. This built in forearm blaster also has a small plastic blaster bolt that you can attach for effect. My overall impression of Super Battle Droid is that he is pretty cool. He is more substantial than the skinny battle droids and a I think more worthwhile to collect.
Super Battle Droid has already had an important part in Episode II but as part of the Separatist army he looks to be in the story a lot more yet. The description on the package describes Super Battle Droid as....
Manufactured by Count Dooku, the tough, deadly and durable super battle droids are used by the Separatist forces in battle. These droid armies clash with the clone troopers throughout the galaxy.
There you go. You need to go buy a whole mess of Clone Troopers and Super Battle Droids if you intend to play with any of your figures.
I recommend this figure. I think you can use to lord over your regular battle droids who should all be ashamed of themselves anyway since they got beaten by Jar Jar. Super Battle Droid seems to have a large role in Revenge of the Sith and makes a good piece for collectors.
