I had heard of Mastercook, but thought how dumb it was to have a cute little recipe program-from a guy's mindset.
Well, my mind has drastically changed. I started doing Weight Watchers and was tired of having to dream up my meal plans day by day. I went searching for something to help me simplify...and guess what got my attention??? Mastercook!
Mastercook was originally a Sierra product, but beginning with version 6.2, Valusoft has turned up the heat and added new features like 2000/XP compatibility and better ways to search for recipes, ingredients and meal plans.
This software does everything except cook the food for you. It will help you plan your meals, give you a grocery shopping list, search cookbooks for the meal you're craving and base it on criteria you choose-low fat, low calorie, low carb, etc, etc,etc, and tell you the nutritional breakdown if you want to keep in check with your intake. You can add ingredients to the database, add the RDA to it and swap recipes and cookbooks with special importing/exporting feature. So much under the hood of this one!
I have saved SO MUCH TIME spending 30 minutes(MAX) on a Saturday planning meals for a whole week, avoiding the "What will I have today?" scenario. With a grocery list, I can print it out and double-check my pantry before heading to the store to avoid buying what I already have. I have saved an average of $30/week pre-planning meals and buying just what we need. It's already paid for itself!
