RSandbach's Full Review: You Don't Know Jack Vol. 4 - The Ride for Windows,...
When I first encountered the original "You Don't Know Jack" (YDKJ) several Holiday seasons ago, I instantly fell in love. An adult trivia game with intelligent, appropriate humor that refused to take itself seriously. The night my family and I got it we played until 2 in the morning, at which point we finally looked at our watches and stumbled into bed. Since then, I've bought every installment in the YDKJ series, but I had never felt the same thrill as I did with the first game. That is, I had never felt it until I got my hands on YDKJ: The Ride.
If you have played one of the previous games, you'll know that it uses pop culture references to spice up regular trivia questions and throws in an irreverent host to make fun of everyone involved. However, The Ride takes this concept to a whole new level. All the questions come in themed games, and there are several new question types to keep the trivia novel and exciting. More importantly, every host that the series has used before puts in an appearance in this game, and at certain junctions in the game they will come in and argue with one another, and instead of being annoying (as you might think) it is one of the most amusing, best written arguments I've heard in any game I've played.
In conclusion, YDKJ: The Ride is a great game for trivia fans, it can singlehandedly make a party out of a small gathering (no more than 5 or 6 people), and it gives the same feeling that you got when you first played your first game of YDKJ (and if this is your first ever game of YDKJ, you'll get a double dose of that feeling). By the way, after I got The Ride, I stayed up with my roommate playing it until 5 AM...twice...and the only reason we stopped is that we had played every question on the entire CD...and yes, there is a resolution to all the arguments at the very end. (As a side note to parents, I'd like to repeat the warning given with all YDKJ: some of the material is not appropriate for youngsters...besides, they won't get it anyway)
