Pros: very realistic color
Cons: funky smell that lingers
The Bottom Line: If you need a quick tan and have a day to spare on layering, then go for it. It looks real if you take the time to do it right.

| candylee's Full Review: Hawaiian Tropic Self Tanning Lotion |
I did a lot of research here on epinions before submitting myself to a self-tanner. Then I went to the store and was dismayed to find limited choices. I lucked out by choosing Hawaiian Tropic self tanner. I was a little wary of the "deep dark" label, but that was all I had to choose from, so I went with it. I did learn from my research however, to make sure it had a certain sugar listed in the ingrediants, and it did. The sugar is supposed to be the thing that turns you tan instead of orange. If I find out the name again, I'll post it in a follow-up.
Application-
I applied the tanner after a shower and good exfoliation. I also applied lotion first, although the bottle didn't recommend it. I find that lotion helps the tanner slide on better and you get a more even coverage. I ended up with a few streaks the time I tried to skip the lotion first. I washed my hands with soap and water about 3 times, after legs, torso, and arms.
Result-
The first application came out so light, I was quick to slather on more. I did three layers before I got a nice tan color...so that "deep dark" label isn't so true. More like "litely toasted." I only had a little problem with some dry spots on my toes that turned a rusty orange color. A vigerous scrub with a loofah sponge took care of that.
I was also reeking of self tanner odor, but it showered off very easily.
1 week later-
Still tan one week later, and that was without reapplying every day like the bottle says. I wanted to see how long it would last without going back for more. A little into the second week, my skin looked all mottled and wierd. The tan started to kind of rub off in spots. I had to get out the loofah for an allover scrub. The process took a few days and then my skin was back to its winter white self.
verdict-
Definately recommended for a realistic tan without the sun. The only drawbacks being the smell afterwards and the fact that you have to spend nearly an entire day layering and waiting then layering again for a good deep tan. I'm still in search of something that produces a dark tan with limited time. Just remember to have a loofah on hand for the tan removal process.
