| missjen's Full Review: Hayward Pool Vac Ultra Pool Cleaner |
We're first time pool owners and the Hayward Pool Vac Ultra is our first cleaner. We purchased it after reading reviews here and speaking to the owners of a few different pool supply stores.
We couldn't be happier with our purchase.
The Pool Vac was easy to set up. I can't recall if the hose that came with it was long enough for our pool but I'm inclined to say that we needed to purchase an extra length of hose (our pool is 15x30 and 10 feet deep at its deepest).
The pool had been neglected for years when we first bought the house, but the Pool Vac had it sparkling within a couple days' time. We naturally first had to manually remove big things like rocks and large pieces of debris, but once the first major manual clean was done, the Pool Vac assumed daily cleaning and has done an excellent job for this last year.
The vac has little feet that help it climb all over the pool and up the walls. Because they flex and move, it also helps move the machine around and keeps the hose from developing a "memory" that would have the machine traveling over the same spots every day. A year later, it still covers the entire pool, with no memory or repeated "track." We live in Phoenix, so during monsoon season the vac is not able cope with the debris that flies in the pool, but I don't know of a vac that would. But in terms of daily cleaning, this machine picks up pebbles, dirt, bugs, leaves, and other small debris and rarely gets stuck. It runs 3 hours per day and we have to unclog it at most, once per week or 10 days during non monsoon season.
The only part of the pool that is neglected by the pool vac ultra are the stairs, though I'm not sure what could be done to improve it. Even manually setting the machine on the stairs doesn't do much in terms of cleaning because the vac automatically works its way to the bottom of the pool. Stairs do require manual attention.
I'm also pleased with Hayward as a company, which further augments my support of this product. The rebate on the machine was processed quickly and customer service has been helpful in answering my questions.
Overall this has proved to be a fairly low maintenance, user friendly, cost effective machine.
