What a Find!
As Ive mentioned in previous reviews, I have dandruff. Not just mild dandruff, but super-itchy stuff.
Generally the inexpensive brands of dandruff shampoos (ranging from store brands to Head & Shoulders) dont work for me. Pyrithione zinc is the most common active ingredient in dandruff shampoos, and it just doesnt work on my dandruff.
Ive tried the more expensive brands of dandruff shampoo also. Selsun Blue, with the active ingredient selenium sulfide, is fantastic. It knocks out my dandruff and the associated itching without smelling bad. Unfortunately, its also quite priceyaround $9 per bottle.
Denorex, with salicylic acid, also works quite well, but it stinks. Its not just a little bit smelly, its hubby comes into the bathroom and begins to gag violently because of the stench smelly.
While I was shopping recently, I happened to notice that there was a sale sticker hanging off the shelf where the various dandruff shampoos sit. When I saw that it was attached to a Head & Shoulders product I was disappointed, because normally they dont work for me.
Then I noticed the discounted products label said intensive treatment and I was curious enough to check it out further. When I saw that the active ingredient was selenium sulfide, the same as Selsun Blue, I knew that it was worth a try!
Claims vs. Truth
Treats Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis
I have the prior condition, and Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment works like a charm!
Gives You Great Looking Hair!
Some dandruff shampoos, especially the stronger ones like Selsun Blue and Denorex, leave hair looking stripped and ugly. Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment leaves my hair in great condition. If I follow it up with a good conditioner, you cannot even tell that Ive used a dandruff shampoosomething no other product Ive tried can boast.
Gentle Enough for Everyday Use
I am a big fan of personal hygiene, so I shower daily. I shampoo my hair with every shower, and I have not had any adverse effects from Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment. In fact, my hair has improved with the daily use thereof.
Any Drawbacks?
My biggest problem with Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment is the smell. Its not the horribly offensive kind, like Denorex. The problem, for me, is that Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment smells exactly like liquid fabric softener. I feel like Im sniffing Downy when I wash my hair.
Price
The price of Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment is lower than any of the other products that will work for me. I found my first bottle on sale for $4, and its normally available for $4.50 to $5.
Recommendation
If you a person for whom selenium sulfide is the most effective dandruff treatment, then skip the Selsun Blue and try Head & Shoulders Intensive Treatment. It works really well for a lot less money!
