My Experience
Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment helps to control some dandruff and irritation from seborrheic dermatitis, but does not completely alleviate all symptoms.
My seborrheic dermatitis has been particularly bad this last year. I'm not sure if it a result of moving to a drier and hotter part of California, but my scalp has revolted by shedding tons of dandruff.
I tried my Neutrogena T-Gel Shampoo, Maximum Strength but surprising that did not help much to soothe my scalp. I tried regular Head and Shoulders with Pyrithione Zinc but that did not help much either.
One day while shopping at Target, I spotted the Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment and decided to pick it up. When I tried it for the first time, I was a bit shocked by the orange color of the shampoo. The shampoo is also a bit on the thin side. Every time I use the shampoo, I wish that it were a bit thicker in consistency. The scent of the shampoo is tolerable. It is much better than the T-Gel Shampoo; to me it smells a bit like a Bounce sheet for the dryer. The scent lingers in hair for a while afterwards.
I apply the Intensive Treatment into my hair and scalp after wetting my hair. I like to let it sit on my scalp and in my hair while I shower and rinse it out at the very end. Upon application, I can feel some sort of slight but strange tingling on my scalp. After allowing the shampoo to sit for a few minutes, I rinse it away. Rinsing it isn't a problem, but hair will be left a bit tangled afterwards. I sometimes use a small bit of conditioner to detangle my hair.
Afterwards, my hair feels clean. There is no feeling of heaviness or shampoo residue in my hair. It took about a week of daily use for me to feel a significant difference in my scalp. It was less itchy and there was a noticeable decrease in the amount of dandruff (on my black shirts!). However, I have a small stubborn patch of skin on the back of my scalp that has the worse seborrheic dermatitis. The thick, scaly patches improved a little, but have not resolved even after almost two months of daily use. The stubborn patch does look better, but it still produces the annoying dandruff and occasional thick scales, which is disgusting and frustrating.
Overall Thoughts
Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment works well for mild cases of dandruff. However, for more stubborn seborrheic dermatitis, symptoms of thick scales and dandruff will improve but not completely resolve.
