Pros: Rich color, applies evenly, resists chipping
I’m not really loyal to any particular nail polish brand, but rather go by the shades I am attracted to, whatever the brand. Essie, however, has such a wonderful array of colors that I often end up with an Essie polish. This is my new favorite shade!
~ Product Description
Essie and I disagree on the shade description of this polish. Essie calls #542 Heavenly Sunset a “light red brick with a touch of glimmer.” To me, and many others, this isn’t in the red family, but more of a tea rose, tending toward coral/salmon/pink. It has the merest hint of shimmer.
This comes in the familiar, squat, square Essie bottle with the embossed “Essie” name on the side. These bottles are nice because they are stable and nearly impossible to tip over. The cap brush is fairly ordinary and performs adequately.
Essie nail polish is claimed to be chip resistant. Expect to pay anywhere from about $5 to $8 for a .34 fl. oz. bottle.
~ My Experience
Essie Heavenly Sunset is a lovely shade that falls in the medium-light spectrum of light to dark shades. It has a neutral look that I think would be flattering to most skin shades. While there is some pink to this, it’s more on the mocha side than pastel pink, and very little orange.
I love the amount of glimmer in this shade. The shimmer is barely detectable, yet adds just the perfect amount of shine and gleam to make the color pop.
You get very good coverage with this shade – it’s not sheer at all. You’ll need two coats, however. This applies evenly without much fuss.
For toes this is a great all-season shade. For fingers, this is probably more of a spring/summer/fall color, but neutral enough that you could wear it anytime. Heavenly Sunset has a conservative yet light-hearted look, and I adore this color on my toes.
This wears about like any quality polish. I can get a full three weeks with no chips on my toes, but less, of course, on fingers, maybe 7-10 days. The shine factor holds up well. Be sure and use a good base and top coat for best results.
~ Final Thoughts
Essie #542 Heavenly Sunset is a gorgeous tea-rose shade that is ideal for spring and summer, but neutral enough for all seasons. This lovely shade has a teeny bit of glimmer that gives it some sheen and shine, without looking sparkly. Nice coverage, rich color, long wearing.
