| merlot's Full Review: Hello Kitty Light Up Dream House |
For Christmas this past year my brother purchased the Hello Kitty Light Up Dream House for my daughter. Both of my daughters love Hello Kitty so this was a gift they quickly decided to share.
The Hello Kitty Light Up Dream House is a fun toy that is recommended for children ages 4 and up. Once you open the box there will be a few stickers that will need to be added to some of the furniture. You will also need to insert the 2 AA batteries which are not included. Once you have done this the house will be ready for guests.
The Hello Kitty Light Up Dream House has 16 pieces with it. The backside of the house opens up so that all the pieces can be stored inside, there is a little lever that turns to lock the house up so the pieces stay secure. When you open the backside of the house there is a large sticker and this becomes the grass and pool area.
Included with the house are Hello Kitty, the Bunny, and the Bear (forgive me, I have no idea what their names are), a refrigerator, lamp, stove/dishwasher/cabinet piece, table with 2 chairs, bed, toilet, sink, bathtub, TV, couch, and a chaise lounge for outside. The top of the house has a handle for easy carrying.
Once the furniture is in the house there isn't a lot of room left over for playing, but small hands won't have too much trouble. I have to lay on the floor to play with this toy with my kids because it is pretty small. Most times we don't put all the furniture in the house because it takes up too much room.
There are two stories to this 4 room house. It contains a circular staircase that leads upstairs. On the wall that separates the two rooms upstairs you will find an On/Off switch which turns on the lights. With batteries in the house there is a light in every room.
I really like the portability of this toy. While I let the kids play with it, I prefer to keep it up so it all stays together because it's the perfect toy to take to friends or Grandma's house. All the small pieces fit inside and the handle makes it perfect for traveling and visiting. I should note that occasionally the pieces can fall out through the windows or through the balcony opening, so just be aware of that.
Toys that are portable and fold up allowing for pieces to be stored inside almost always score an A+ in my book. I have friends who don't have children or who have babies. Therefore I try and bring a toy when we visit to keep my kids occupied. This is the perfect toy for that. There are small pieces so if you're taking it where small children are you will need to be aware of that.
I think that the lights in each room are a cool feature. They make this Dream house different from other playsets. One thing I wish is that the front porch lights also lit up, that would be kind of cool. I also wish the locking mechanism on the back worked a little better. Perhaps if it were to just snap shut it would be easier for small hands. Small hands have trouble turning the little dial to get it to lock, it also has to be in the perfect position to lock which can be hard to achieve.
All in all I think this is a fun toy for girls and I recommend it, especially for Hello Kitty fans. The bright pinks and purples make for a pretty, portable little house. Despite the few flaws in design this is a nice toy.
