A Balanced and Almost Perfect Pen
Written: Oct 27 '04 (Updated Dec 15 '04)
Pros:-Great balance -Great feel and comfort -Smooth writing
Cons:-Complicated -Useless eraser
The Bottom Line: I highly suggest this pen to everyone. It's everything a good pen should be. I recommend it for yourself, or for someone else you want to reward.
This pen is one of the best pen's I've ever felt in my hand. The pen looks great. It's very clean and well shaped. The clip is strong and beautiful. Waterman's symbol is on the top of the clip. The metallic blue doesn't need you to clean off your finger prints after use.
The pen size is almost perfect. It's not overly thin, like some of Cross' pens but it's not fat like other pens. The pen feels very solid. The balance is about 45/55 but no where near as top heavy as some other pens. It really depends how you hold the pen and how big your hand is.
To use the pen, a simple twist to the right draws out the ballpoint. The soft click tells you when you are ready to write. To replace the refill, you simply turn to the left and keep twisting. The ink is very smooth and flows neatly.
I would also like to talk briefly about the matching pencil. The pencil looks just as great as the pen. There are some small differences. The first obvious difference is it's a pencil. The original pencil leads are almost like writing with a pen. They are very smooth and are durable. The pencil actually feels more balanced, closer to 50/50 than the pen. Twist to the right and the lead goes out a bit. If you twist to the left and you can pull the lead out. I'm really not sure how to reload it but if you find out please contact me so I can help everyone.
I've only had the pen and pencil for a month so I'll update this if any thing come up that I should inform you about.
Update: Well I finally found an eraser. You just have to pull, not twist the cap off. It exposes a brass structure and a pink eraser is revealed. I don't use it since I don't want to tear the cap off every time I need to. Reloading the pencil just requires you to take out the eraser and shove in your leads. However, the pencil actually comes with about 5 very excellent leads so you shouldn't need to do this often. Thank you for your patience in me discovering more about this pen/pencil.
