The construction
The heart of this is a solid piece of stainless steel (probably stamped). The metal is in the shape of a two-pronged fork with an upward curve on the prongs itself. The handle is two pieces of some hard synthetic product, and it is quite durable.
The tag said it was Ice hardened, but I have no idea what that really means.
The weight and feel.
For its designed purpose it is balanced very well. The center point is 2/3s of the way up the handle. It is not balanced well enough for throwing, so I wouldnt recommend it for that purpose.
The handle is not ergonomically designed to the human hand but it really doesnt need to be. I feel that I have a good grasp of this fork with the handle that it has.
As far as usage is concerned, it does the job as well as any other single-tasker does. It secure hold the product while you cut, hack, or chainsaw the food in question. But since the chain saw requires two hands then you would want to put the fork down.
Does it bend easily?
Absolutely not. The fork is pretty thick and will flex but immediately returns to its original angle. It will flex under the weight of a turkey but not bend. I tried to bend it in my mind but that didnt work either.
Who is this for?
It isnt long enough to use on a grill so that just leaves it for simple kitchen chores. It is the right length for the average pieces of meat for transporting or positioning, stovetop usage, but not for oven usage (I find tongs or silicon mittens are easier to use in my oven)
Also, since it is metal, it will scratch Teflon pans if you own those.
Cleaning
Cleans easily under a sink with a sponge. I, like everything else, throw mine in the dishwasher.
Durability
The only damage is a few scratches. Nothing serious. The rivets have discolored slightly but do not appear compromised in any way. I have had this for about 3 years.
But is it used?
I actually do not use this very often. Just when Im carving/transporting a turkey or large chicken. When I need something to flip food around I use one of my OXO tongs to turn it. I find the tongs or silicon mittens to be a better solution they trying to use this and a knife to remove a big piece of meat from the oven.
It isnt good for sausages or other incased meats because once you puncture it, a lot of the liquid will be released.
Weight and dimensions
Weight: 3.25 oz
Total length: 10 5/16 inches
Handle length: 4 3/8 inches
Length of each skewer: 3 inches
Summary
For what it is this is a very nice meat fork. It is sharp, strong, and practically indestructible. For carving it does its job superbly. But I personally just do not use it enough to justify getting one if this ever disappeared. I just dont use it enough.
