Depression Made in the USA, Relieved by USA product--St Johns Wort
Written: Apr 29, 2011
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Cheap, effective, not approved by the FDA
Cons:Bitter, alcohol overload, not approved by FDA
The Bottom Line: Natural, Effective liquid extract for mild depression, anxiety associated with slew of illnesses. Very inexpensive. Made in USA, not FDA approved, yey !
You know the commercial that airs on national cable television, the one that speaks the motto ‘depression hurts’ ? It is usually accompanied by a pharmaceutical company serving their synthetic wares or some lawsuit has been filed because the drug that was supposed to help had adverse effects and was recalled, yaddah yaddah . . .
Well, I feel it is one of the worst commercials out here in AMERICA in my humble opinion, has really nothing to do with the review below but I must make my points using familiar examples. The website nutritionland.com offers hope and here is why. Currently those unable to cope with a depressive state versus a euphoric state might seek inexpensive, simple but dangerous coping methods. I tell you don’t reach for that Bourbon shot or that expensive stout or beer or even your prescribed synthetic meds for your depressed state of being.
Why you ask ? Because I have discovered something natural, herbal and prepared in either tea or tincture to induce managed calm. This when taken as an antidepressant is not to be mixed with any other treatment drug for it, can reduce hyperactivity, clarify any subtle disorientation, rationalize irrational mannerisms and improve overall mood change to positive from negative. Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz works, is concentrated and NOT approved by your dandy government because it works, grows abundantly, & costs pennies on the dollar with minimal side effects when used accordingly.
No physician that I know in my lifetime for my health concerns stepped up to the homeopathic plate, I looked and healed for myself. None offered natural treatments for everything from mild mood changes due to PMS, hormonal imbalance due to estrogen-dominant cyst growth and over-all a weak reproductive system. That led to me feeling or being down a lot yet not wrecked havoc as some ‘depressed states of being can induce.
I realized embracing instead of fearing my slow-down time was not as difficult as I read it could be and how needing synthetic stabilization was my only conventional option. I truly wanted to believe and prove to myself and others that depression DOES NOT have to hurt, physically or psychologically. I wish back then I would of known about or had made available to me, Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz I managed with a few herbal preparations my grandparents knew of and fared childhood allergic reactions and mild traumas like skinned knees, beestings, colds with fresh leaves of the St Johns Wort, lavendar, chamomile and dandelion plants growing wild in abundance in our backyard. Back then as a child who the heck could have been depressed though away from the city, your parents messed up personalities, and hundreds of miles of scenic Catskill mountain ranges to enjoy every day ! I did not hurt while being down just acted differently which in my case and even yours, is completely normal.
Now on with the review . . .
|| APPEARANCE ||
When you see this growing in the wild you would mistake it for a ruthless weed that does more harm to your other pretty perennials because of the suffocating leaves that tend to wrap around the stem for comfort not to threaten the livelihood of the plant. I have seen various intensity of yellow in the flowers and although the websites I looked at and the herb books I own state a ‘crimson-colored’ liquid is supposed to be extracted from these flowers when pressed together, I got no such liquid from the flowers. I thought maybe mine were immature plants. Turns out in my further research of this ‘depression drug’, only the seed pods or buds of the flower not the petals themselves will when crushed together produce a purple/reddish liquid.
Housed in this brown glass bottle, Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz has an acrid smelling odor that can annoy sensitive nostrils. It is thin and slightly syrupy with an opaque texture. There is some concern about using this topically as directed and NOT having any sunshine penetrate the skin as this causes a ‘photosensitivity to light’ reaction in HIV+ patients who took this for depression related to illness.
|| ALLERGIES ||
It is a perennial flower that can exacerbate the histamine followed by a nasal or airway allergic reaction; consult your doctor before using Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz.
|| COST ||
This is not an expensive herb but for what it assists with the cost is fair. The company website associated with the product made by NuvaLife, is selling Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz with eye-dropper top for suggested list price of $12.49 but with discounts and incentive programs from nutrition life.com as little as .85 cents ! Now that’s a pinhole burn in your wallet compared to that $75.oo synthetic crud you buy to keep you complacent and mellow, as per your family physician recommended prescription.
|| Company BIOS ||
It is good knowing this company is USA made and that we as conscientious consumers for better safer health products, we are guaranteed, “homeopathic, organic, kosher, gluten-free, fair-trade, wheat-free, vegan and dairy free options“ at our fingertips to that keyboard, or dial pad on your telephone.
|| DIRECTIONS ||
It seems with this particular extract, Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz can be swallowed in a tea with much added honey, Agave nectar or organic cane sugar cause like I said it is quite bitter and the alcohol is strong (not enough to get you buzzed and too much of any good thing is a no-no).
The amount and how to take this is noted as: Shake Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz well before using and daily drop 30 to 40 drops in a little water, two to five times per day and definitely under the supervision of your doctor a trained professional in toxicology and effective mixology.
|| HEALTH BENEFITS ||
This herb, used widely in Germany for kids, teens and adults suffering with mild depressive symptoms has flavonoids in it, four of them as a matter of fact, and this biologically speaking is a secondary metabolite found in the plant, naturally occurring and causing the intense yellow-orange hues found in the flowers.
It is known as Vitamin P (Citrin), a vitamin I did not study nor know about when I was in college. However it appears important for ketone balance and is documented but not federal government approved to calm the nervous system and offer emotional composure.
This necessary compound is extracted from FRESH not dried flowers and stems closest to the petals, that when processed it does not lose its three very distinct medicinal quality nor its strength. For external use a salve created with a non-alcohol non-petroleum but all natural glycerin base to be applied to open wounds where coagulation is required while quickening the healing properties by upgrading the antibodies used to fight infection, is delivered. This is ideal with aloe for soothing and cooling on burns and bruises.
For internal use, this Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz liquid is strong and is alcohol and bitterness BUT a tea can be prepared from boiling the leaves, stems or flowers to prepare a tasty sedative. Since the major compound treats mild depression or anxiety acting as the sedative it is not suggested to drink while bathing. St. John’s Wort contains many different substances that work together but the main compound is what a depressed person may gain relief from.
|| INGREDIENTS ||
Certified organic grain alcohol & St. John's Wort extractives which is fresh not dried. I read that your best infusions should be made using an extract having at least 0.3% of standardized levels of that necessary compound. The one in St Johns Wort is H-e-p-e-r-I-c-I-n without the hyphens (my computer refuses to spell it out so I invented a work-around) and it is what assists mild depressive states of being.
|| SMELL ||
Bitter and loaded with alcohol; but when added to anything sweet, nicely tolerated.
|| TASTE ||
Bitter and loaded with alcohol; but when added to anything sweet, nicely tolerated.
|| USES ||
To work on the re-uptake of serotonin and equilibrium of dopamine to create balance between hormones and enzymes during down-times when our body and mind just MUST remain calm, naturally.
|| WARNING ||
According to the site, NuvaLife, and any other information that would accompany a drug synthetic or natural, has a warning attached to it. This is standard or at least should be whether our darn government approves it or not. If it works, use it accordingly but heed warnings which simply advise consultation with your doctor, to avoid ANY and all exposure to sunlight or UV light while taking Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz and of course knowing me well enough after all this time, READ your labels people and follow the directions exactly ! If you cannot read then get someone who can before you ingest, please.
|| VERDICT (my) ||
In my humble opinions about reactions to issues, I speak truth in advertising and the commercials that insist ‘depression must hurt’ to be real are quite frustrating, really to misinforming. I do not discount that in some cases chemical imbalances need outside stimulation to level out. Initially depression sets in because of lack of motivation on every aspect of ones daily living, nothing seems important enough to do, not even get up and move around. While not moving around, this gives that person plenty of time to concentrate on small pains which become more intense physical restrictions.
I know my mood affects how I behave, how I eat, how I relax and how I interact with fellow human beings. If my mood is sour, it shows. Without the nasty or intolerable side effects from most drugs, the herbal ones not spared, something natural is certainly more tolerable. I encourage a better mood and this Herb Pharm St. John Wort 1 oz extract will deliver. A better mood could induce less self-destructive thoughts that feed inactivity therefore increasing the feeling of being depressed.
It will not work over-night and there is no federal government backing any of the statements made by professionals or consumers like me, but I am alive today because of the research and availability of natural alternatives, and I will keep educating you on them because I care.
I recommend this a *** effort would be 5 without the alcohol.
Thank you for reading and
Enjoy !
