Pros:Good introductory set and mix of heroes
Cons:Map and rules not included; repeat figures from a previous set
The Bottom Line: Marvel Heroes Battle Pack has a good mix of heroes from Iron Man to Iron Fist to the Punisher helping to ward of evil, as corny as it sounds.
What better way to delve into the world of HeroClix than by purchasing the new Marvel HeroClix: Classics series. These sets can be found at Toys ‘R' Us and accessible to the masses. Four different battle packs are created for this line with three predetermined figures situated for each pack and having the Marvel Heroes Battle Pack will ensure that the heroes will be ready for anything that is thrown at them.

The packaging is different from other HeroClix sets as you can actually see the figures that you are getting. This particular set includes Iron Man, Iron Fist, and the Punisher.
***Please note: these three figures originally appeared in the Marvel HeroClix: Secret Invasion set. They have been repackaged for this purpose.
Tony Stark is always tinkering around to make his Iron Man armour up-to-date with the latest technology and more effective in battle. He is nine clicks deep and has truly amazing abilities at his disposal. His Speed dial gives him the advantage with three clicks of Running Shot right out of the gate with 10 movement. This is followed by two clicks of Charge just in case people aren't aware that Iron Man is gunning for them. He starts off with a good +11 on his Attack dial with three clicks of Energy Explosion and puts on a show with Pulse Wave on his sixth and seventh clicks. In other words, he can fend off multiple opponents if need be. His defense is mighty high starting at 18 and three clicks of Invulnerability. This is followed with five clicks of Toughness and one click of Regeneration. I love the last click because it allows Mr. Stark to recharge his armour and get back into battle. Iron Man can deliver blows to his opponents quite effectively especially when he has a base 4 hit for his first click. He then drops to base 3 for the next two before increasing back to base 4 for another two clicks. He uses his special powers for the first three clicks, then switches to Outwit for two, Perplex for two, and ends with two clicks of Ranged Combat Expert. This is a guy who has many tricks up his sleeve and it shows. To make matters even worse for his enemies, he can target two different opponents at once. Naturally, he is outfitted with the Avengers team ability.
**Extremis (Special Powers): Iron Man can use Outwit and Perplex. When a power or ability is not countered by Iron Man's Outwit, he can use Super Senses.

One of my favourite characters of all time is martial arts expert Iron Fist. Even though he is only seven clicks deep, he can deliver the final blow in convincing fashion. His Speed dial starts off with two clicks of his special powers: Thunder Kick. It is followed by two clicks of Flurry, two clicks of Leap/Climb, and ends with one click of Charge. Never once is Iron Fist on the defensive with these moves. His attack value starts off well with +11 and drops slowly throughout the dial. He gains the ability of Blades/Claws/Fangs on his fifth and sixth clicks, then ends it off with a click of Quake, a good maneuver against multiple enemies in hand-to-hand combat. He starts off with a strong 17 defense and uses his special powers for the first three clicks. The next three are dedicated to Combat Reflexes making him very hard to hit. The last click allows Iron Fist the luxury of Regeneration to build back his strength. I love that Iron Fist is equipped with Exploit Weakness for the first two clicks on his Damage slot. As a martial artist, he has that ability to do exactly that to his opponents. This is followed by a devastating two clicks of Close Combat Expert giving him a +2 boost against opponents in hand-to-hand situations. His last click gives him the power of Exploit Weakness one more time just to show that he's not a beaten man at all. Everything about this character is deadly and I absolutely love it. He has the Spider-Man team ability as well.
**Good Fortune Thunder Kick (Special Powers - Speed Dial): Iron Fist can use Leap/Climb and Flurry.
**Champion of K'un-Lun (Special Powers - Defense Dial): Iron Fist can use Super Senses and Willpower.

Frank Castle is a criminal's worst nightmare come to life. As the Punisher he dishes out his own brand of justice that even heroes don't approve of his methods. The Punisher is seven clicks deep and definitely lives up to his name. Running Shot occupies the third, fourth and fifth clicks on his Speed dial as he gets an adrenaline rush to take out his opponents. His Attack dial starts off with a decent +10 and two clicks of his special Chain Gun power. It switches to three clicks of Energy Explosion, to take out multiple opponents, and ends with two clicks of Blades/Claws/Fangs. Willpower occupies most of his Defense dial except on the third and fourth clicks, as that belongs to Toughness. His base 3 damage is a great way to start things off for a few clicks. He gains Outwit on the third click before it switches to Ranged Combat Expert for the last two clicks. At this point, the Punisher is going to let it all loose and go crazy with his 8 range. He also has the Spider-Man team ability.
**Chain Gun (Special Powers): Once per turn when the Punisher succeeds at a ranged combat attack against an opposing target character, after the attack resolves he can immediately make ranged combat attacks against any other opposing characters adjacent to the target to which he can draw a clear line of fire. (Each attack is rolled and deals damage separately). If the result of a successful ranged combat attack roll made by the Punisher is doubles, the damage dealt is penetrating damage.

Even though these figures once appeared in the Marvel HeroClix: Secret Invasion set, having a few select playable ones serve as an introduction to new players to game is a great idea. The only downside is obtaining the rules and "The Lab" map by downloading them from the website at http://www.wizkidsgames.com/marvelclassics. But I guess it helps people become aware that the website is up and running again, reformatted and polished for all to see. Also included are three character cards, the HeroClix version of cheat sheets.
This set has a great mix of heroes, from the high and mighty to the ones the do the dirty jobs. The Marvel Heroes Battle Pack is one great way to introduce and reintroduce people to the world of HeroClix at only $5.99 a set with Ol' Shellhead leading the way into combat.
