Indy HeroClix from WizKids was a collaboration of putting together characters created by other comic book companies not associated with DC or Marvel Comics, such as the Top Cow Universe, J. Scott Campbell's Danger Girl, David Mack's Kabuki, 2000 A.D., CrossGen, and Mike Mignola's Hellboy. It was like getting a comic book crossover all in one package. One of the standouts from this series is Unique Hellboy, who proves to be and erratic powerhouse that keeps both the player and opponent on its toes.
While there is a Rookie/Experienced/Veteran (REV) set included in this series, Unique Hellboy (silver ring) proves to be an unleashed version of this character in all his glory with no restraints. He starts off with a massive +12 attack value that is devastating to opponents considering that he has the option of using Super Strength when attacking. Normally, I wouldn't hesitate to use this ability considering that his damage value is only 2. Using a light/medium object will add +1 to the damage, a heavy object will add +2, or a super heavy object like a dumpster will add +3 to the total value. But considering that his damage value also has Close Combat Expert (adding an extra +2 to the damage), one has to consider which option is best suited for the situation. Whatever you choose, it will just be bad for your opponent. You already know that Hellboy is going to hurt you a lot with a minimum of 4 damage.
His Super Strength only lasts for the five clicks with each click dropping by 1 in attack value. In these first five clicks, he also has Invulnerability (three clicks), Toughness (2 clicks), Charge (three clicks), and Close Combat Expert (five clicks). On the sixth click, however, things become very interesting.
One would expect that his numbers will drop deeper into his dial. But that isn't the case. Instead, his attack value goes back up to +11. Granted, there is no other power he gains in the attack value but it's significant enough to catch a second wind. Defensively, he drops to only 14 defense but gains Invulnerability again for one click. It's the next two clicks that really help him survive as he gains a huge defensive boost with Impervious. From there, it's another click of Invulnerability and finishing off with two clicks of Toughness. The defensive stat on his dial is the only time he has powers for the full duration on his life, and it's the maximum eleven clicks (out of twelve)! His damage increases to a natural 4 on the sixth click but he gains the power of Battle Fury. This means he cannot be carried into battle by someone who can fly, throw objects, or be mind-controlled. His seventh click gives him whopping, natural 5 damage when he lays the smackdown on opponents. This is where you do not want to mess with him at all.
To make Unique Hellboy even more dangerous is his team ability. The B.P.R.D. symbol acts as a wild card, meaning he can mimic any team ability on the board, whether it is someone form his own team or his opponent's. Imagine him switching from Danger Girl to 2000 A.D. to Kabuki. It makes him very unpredictable.
I love the sculpt for this figure as this is a raw Hellboy ready to pound the living daylights out of you. His horns are fully grown and his Right Hand of Doom is ready to do some serious damage. He has no range but really doesn't need it. His point value is close to 200 but with the amount of powers displayed and his team ability, it's worth the cost.
The demon, whose true name is Anung Un Rama (the Beast of the Apocalypse), was raised as a human and became the "World's Greatest Paranormal Investigator". Even though Unique Hellboy doesn't show his refined look, there is no doubt that he is a powerful force to contend with no matter how he looks. But with his horns intact and in full, it means that he is ready to do some serious business, and who in their right mind would want to contend with a demon?
