wmcot's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Photosmart D5160 InkJet Printer
The Hewlett Packard Photosmart D5160 is a terrific buy for the money. Many places are closing this one out right now as the new models come in. I actually picked up two of these printers, one for me and one for my daughter in college. Her first comment was that it was so much faster than her old printer!
I have had mine for a few months now and it is a great printer for everything from photos to general text printing. I am still on the original cartridges that came with it even after quite a few pages with small photos on them.
One of the features that I really love is the fact that it has two trays: one for regular 8 1/2 x 11 paper and a small, adjustable one for 4x6, 5x7, etc. photo paper. I can keep the photo paper loaded while doing my regular, everyday printing.
My second daughter was giving a baby shower and needed to print small, round labels that come with 20 on a 4x6 sheet (approximately) It is a real pain trying to get small sheets of labels to feed on any printer's standard paper tray. IDEA HITS! We put the labels in the photo tray and tol the printer we were printing borderless 4x6 photos on matte, heavy paper - Bingo! Sheets of perfectly aligned labels! What a time saver!
The printer also comes with a tray for printing directly on printable CDs or CDs with blank labels already attached to them. This is one feature that I haven't been really impressed with. The printing software for CDs is pretty basic and the results are not that great. Perhaps I just haven't mastered the technique yet, but it is faster for me to print the standard CD and DVD label sheets (which come out beautiful!) than hassle with the CD tray. Then again, I didn't really buy it for this feature, so I really don't care.
The colors on photos are realistic and the resolution is very good! I understand they are even better when using the photo ink cartridges!
All in all, I paid $49 for one printer and $59 for the other at OfficeMax and I don't think I could find a better printer at anywhere near those prices.
Both my daughter and I are happy with our printers!
