I hate this printer.

Pros: The print quality is really nice.

Cons: Eats all the paper products it can get hold of.  Has to calibrate continuously.

The Bottom Line: Stay away from this printer.  The low price is attractive for a networked, color laser printer but the paper handling problems kill off the benefit of any savings.

I chose the HP LaserJet 2600n printer because I needed an inexpensive and high-quality color printing option (with network support) for my office.  After researching many laser, phaser and ink jet models the 2600n seemed an obvious choice - I've owned several HP printers in the past and always had great performance out of all of them.  That was not the case with this one...

Installation and setup were easy enough and it took to the network without a hitch.  Test pages printed fine and the quality was excellent.  So far, so good.  Fast forward a couple months and I'm ready to pull my hair out.

This monstrosity could have easily served double-duty as a paper shredder.  If you try to feed a single envelope via the bypass tray it will devour it 90% of the time.  Card stock is one of it's favorite delicacies and it consumes all it can get hold of.  What's unfortunate is that it has a very difficult time digesting all that it consumes and you'll frequently see the word "calibrating" flashing in it's LCD eyes.

I called HP and told them of the issues I was having and they said "Hmmm, we usually don't see those problems from that printer".  So they were a big help.

This printer causes way more frustration than any inanimate object should.  I really, really hate this thing and have lost hours of productivity messing with it and it will be replaced as soon as the economy allows.  Owning this creature has definitely made me appreciate the movie Office Spacejust a bit more.  Now where did I put those TPS reports???
