Very Poor Machine

The Bottom Line: HP added too many bellls and whistles and ended up with a very poor product.

Where do I start- We got the 4500 after trading in a 1050 workhorse hoping for more speed.  What a mistake.  First off it comes in 42" width to print a faster 42" sheet.  But no one carries 42" paper so that is a waste.  Then it will print a few sheets fast, but will soon go into this printhead management mode where speed is cut in half.  Then every couple sheets it stop and adjusts itself for a few minutes.  So overall the 1050 was much faster.

Then it has broken down 3 times in 18 months under light usage.  we replaced a sensor and the fan.  The service contract is double the 1050.  The supplies are really high becasue you are constantly replacing the mystic printhead.

It comes with internet print management, but myself or the tech has never figured out how to save a job.  And it can reprint a job, but it does not print the sheets in order, it just jumbles them, so that feature is about worthless.

Hmm what else.  Often when changing paper the  screen goes into this endless loop so you have to cut the power, and you find it takes about 5 minutes to power up.

Overall you can get a faster machine for half the cost.
