Manufacturer Information
Out of The Box
The LaserJet 3055 gets some serious credit for ease of use. Unlike most printers, there are no fixed installation procedures that you have to follow. You can install the drivers first or let the machine prompt you for them. The printer includes a startup guide detailing steps and instructions to help those who are Computer Illiterate.
Similar to other manufacturers there is a need to remember the model numbers of your ink cartridges. The software is able to detect the type of consumables installed automatically. A slight negative is that the USB & Networking cable is not included in the package, which could be considered somewhat an inconvenience figuring the cost of the LaserJet 3055 you would hope it would come with at least one of these. At least the phone cord was included, for faxing capabilities/hookups.
Furthermore setting the unit up on the 10/100 Network proved quite simple, after each PC had the drivers installed it was recognized and ready for use.

This product wont hold you up featuring Instant-on Technology, the unit does not really require a warm up period, which on other multifunction in our office can be anywhere from 5-10 minutes. This is a great advantage when it comes to impatient users and getting the work done.
The copies typically turn out fairly good, even smaller font text size 6-7 is readable. Also the zoom features work well, when trying to copy each
To handle the demands of a small to medium workteam, the product comes standard with a 250-sheet input tray, a 10-sheet priority feed slot, and a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF).

Maximum Optical Resolution 19200 dpi
Color Depth, bit 24-bit(16.7M)
Maximum Scan Area 8.5" x 11.7"
Scanner Resolution 1200 x 1200 dpi
The software included helps optimize the Optical Resolution to a claimed 19200dpi, but truth be told I was not that impressed with the quality of the scanned images for color.
The Maximum scan area of the flatbed scanner is only 8.5 x 11.7 which is somewhat disappointing seeing the unit handles such a wide array of different papers for different projects.
The scanner and copier of the HP LaserJet 3055 did decently with regarding color fidelity & photos. The scanner delivers images that remained sharp but with colors that were slightly washed out. However, this is a typical trait of most All In ones. The Monochrome scans, on the other hand, faired much better as the quality was noticeably higher and less wasteful with ink.
The scanning feature is used least in the office, so our concern with quality color output is low.
For faxing the 33.6 modem works well enough, I would personally prefer a 56k modem. Automatic redial is a nice feature especially when the line is busy, saves you the headache of trying to repeat the same process to send a fax through. It also contains digital storage, which allows up to 110 pages or stored memory.

The machine, with its larger size, has an open interior found on few other multifunction units. The scanner bed pops open and rests on a brace, revealing the interior of the printer. It makes for changing the black cartridge fairly quick and easy.
Warranty
Parts Warranty 1 year
Labor Warranty 1 year
Limited Warranty
Fairly standard warranty usually its 1 year parts 90 labor, at least the warranty covers both for 1 year. Manufactures warranties typically do not cover, heat, humidity, dust, acts of god, normal wear & tear, along with electrical surges.
Construction Specifications
The construction of the printer shell and case is made entirely of hard plastic, which has proven quite durable. However the buttons do require some finesse while trying to press and use them, they have always been somewhat particular in the way you apply pressure to them. This causes a bit of frustration when I press a command or number and it skips causing an incorrect variable or final resultant. The LCD screen has a plastic coating that protects it from being scratched up, making it easy to determine the display.
Usage
Specifically designed for high volume black & white, the printer has proven itself an intrigue part of the work/office setting. We specifically use it on a day to day basis for running copies of faxes, forms, paperwork, documents, letters, transmittals, and text.
Performance
The machine is not perfect as sometimes it jams occasionally, but the speed of the printouts on draft mode (lowest quality setting) kick out in seconds, higher quality will cost you more time, but the results are apparent. Along with speed in copying, the printers processor allows it to spool information from the source at a good rate, thus keeping the printing process at a heightened performance. Its performance can be compared to a laser printer that you can find for 300-400 bucks on line.
Quality
Well how important is performance if the final result is garbage? The text quality is that of a laser printer so it specializes in text, fonts, and black/white images. Again we primarily use it for office type work and settings and even when reduction and enlargement of font is used the text is readable, crisp, and looks professional. Even when printing smaller fronts from Microsoft Word or Excel its performance has proven quite good, as figures, decimals, and numbers are legible and easy to determine.
Final Recommendations
The HP LaserJet 3055 is a solid performer for a small/medium size business setting, meaning upwards of 15 computers attached and running of this printer. Because it is a laser printer, The HP LaserJet Q2612A Black Print Cartridge Ultra precise toner, and imaging drum are integrated into one supply, so you refresh the entire printing system every time you replace a cartridge. Designed to work together with the printer, the cartridge is critical to achieving consistent, high-quality results. The LaserJet cartridge is included, but runs about $60-$70 as a replacement, but the output is substantially worth the price as it requires less replacement than a standard inkjet cartridge.
My favorite feature is the nonexistence of warm-up time, as the first print out comes in about 8 seconds. Along with that the control panels intuitive, 2-line, 16-character backlit LCD display makes the product easy to use and maintain so even the most ignorant person to computers can use this printer. It will display low ink messages, printer jams, fax failures, and a variety of other user important messages.
The overall speed & performance merits a good recommendation as a multifunction printer, which performs both high quality black & white printouts and copies. Even with a high demand for output, the 110 page memory should be sufficient for even busy offices that require many faxes day in day out. The HP LaserJet 3055 printing and imaging systems help you create powerful, professional results quite easily.
Originally the HP LaserJet 3055 came out at about $699.99, but Ive seen them as cheap as $260 for a refurbished unit online. Our office is satisfied with the printing, copying, and faxing performance of the unit, however the scanning did leave us with something to be desired.
