Cons: Mouse freezes, won't burn DVD-R, configures unexpectedly, wild mouse, sporadic DVD play
The Bottom Line: I wish the features outweighed the necessity of operation. Aesthetics over substance is not what we were seeking. I cannot recommend this computer to anyone...except HP.

My wife and I purchased the Compaq CQ60-420US in September 2009 for the purpose of multi-office tasking and muti-media applications. We understood that it was bare-boned in it's applications, but liked the storage capacity, memory, CPU speed and the price ($400). The wi-fi pick-up was great too while on-the-run. Unfortunately, that was it.
The problems started on day two. It wouldn't burn to a DVD-R. I wasted two of them, before successfully burning a DVD+R.
On day six, the mouse froze--a second time. I stayed on the line with Tech Support (from India) for an hour and ten minutes. They solved the problem, were polite and patient, but my ear still hurts...and watch out that you call the RIGHT number for Tech Support or you'll get hosed at $2/min—the first minute (explaining the problem) is free.
Then, we tried to watch a movie on the DVD player. It wouldn't load for the first four attempts—while making an unusally loud bumping noise. When it finally loaded, the movie played great...until the computer elected to configure in the middle of my movie! Not good.
It took 10 minutes to configure and resume operation. This “configuration” occurred on three consecutive days. What was positive about the DVD play was that it resumed at the point of interruption (the next day).
The operation of the finger mouse is irritating, for it goes wild and acts as if it has a mind of its own. It's gotta be a feature I've yet learned to disable.
The media pixels are great. The keyboard is fine and it's attractive. The weight of the machine is more than suitable for portability. I wish that these features outweighed the necessity of operation. Aesthetics over substance is not what we were seeking. I cannot recommend this computer to anyone...except HP.
