I bought the HP Deskjet 1000 J110a because I needed to replace the ink cartridges on my old Epson inkjet. Lo and behold, at $29 was able to buy this printer complete with ink cartridges for less than half the cost of replacing the cartridges in the Epson.

The Deskjet 1000 is a simple USB inkjet printer, nothing more. This is the basic printer to get if you only need to print documents, coupons, invoices, etc. around the home or office. It does not have any built-in networking capabilities but it can be easily shared on a home network using Windows printer sharing.
The Deskjet 1000 connects to your PC using a USB cable (not included) and includes the necessary HP 61 black and HP 61 Tri-color ink cartridges. Setup in Windows 7 was typical for a device such as this one. I downloaded the appropriate drivers from HP's website to ensure I had the latest version and installed them and connected the printer via USB; nothing else to it. The printer was up and running in a few short minutes.
With a maximum resolution of 600 dpi, the print quality is good for a simple inkjet printer, on par with just about every other inkjet I've used.
Considering how cheap this printer is it could almost be treated as a disposable. Shopping around on Amazon and other websites it looks like replacing the ink cartridges for the Deskjet 1000 would cost more than the initial price of the printer itself.
