Sacrifice Nothing: A Loaded, Attractive, High-Quality, Lightweight, Value Portable

Written: Nov 02 '08 (Updated Nov 02 '08)
  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Ease of Use:
  • Quality of Tech Support:
Pros:Portable, loaded, beautiful, and easy to use.  Amazing keyboard and screen.  Zero sacrifice.  Low price.
Cons:Slow to boot (blame Vista Multimedia), internal speakers could be louder, black case shows fingerprints.
The Bottom Line: Incredible value, quality, features, and ease-of-use in a lightweight, reliable, attractive laptop.

Value-packed Lightweight Portable Holds Up For Travel...
Not only is this HP Tx1000 laptop a great machine for travel but after over a year of use it holds up amazingly well, still looking and working like brand new.  It is an extremely handsome, practical combination of useability and lightweight power without being so small as to render it useless for those with big fingers.  I picked up this small-size laptop to use for work and travel for $850 at a major computer retailer.

Four Pounds with Zero Sacrifice...
The HP Tx1000 series 12.1" laptop weighs in at 4 lbs so it is easy to throw it in a sleeve and take it anywhere.  Yet it is so loaded, it sacrifices nothing.

It is incredibly light, attractive, and easy to use.  The 12.1" widescreen is amazing for doing computer work, presentations or just watching a DVD.  The removeable remote means I can walk away from it during presentations and control powerpoint presentations or raise the volume or repeat the scene of a movie.

Zero Keyboard Finger Scrunch Even Though Tx1000 is Small...
In addition to the huge feature-set and diminutive size, what sold me is the Tx1000 keyboard.  I am very sensitive to keyboards and compared to other ultraportables, the Tx1000 has, by far, the best keyboard for big man fingers.  My sister has a tiny Sony Viao and it is obvious their keyboards and other makers' small keyboards are made for littler people with littler fingers.

A Beautiful and Well-made Device...
With a high-gloss piano-black swirl finish, silver and chrome accents and blue/organge buttons and switches integrated into the lcd frame and the keyboard plane of the laptop, this is laptop eyecandy that is easy to use in any lighting setting.

I was overwhelmed by how generous HP was in terms of what came with the unit.  In addition to the features below, the Tx1000 even came with a super-sized microfiber towel for keeping the screen and body of the laptop clean.  It is so big I use it to clean my television!  Thoughtful and an example of the detail and quality feel you will get from this device.

Another really nice touch is that almost everything is removable so the device can be made even lighter by removing what you don't want to carry.  For example, the optical drive can be left at home to lighten the machine by a pound.  Another nice touch are the included plastic covers that keep the Tx1000 looking pretty when you decide to remove those extras to lighten the load.

Remove the Corporate Acne and She's Gorgeous...
Just one small pet peeve:  the unit ships with at least five stickers on the palm rest that look like corporate acne until you remove them.  Once gone, the machine is gorgeous and everyone oohs and aaahs when I whip it out :-)

Bottom Line - - A Winner All Around...
The bottom line is this is a well-made, easily used, portable that will serve you well and attractively.  I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
