| vzqk50's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion zv6000 (PN494AV) PC Noteb... |
I hesitate to write a review after only a week of ownership given all of the things that can go wrong, but when I was shopping, I found that little had been written about it, so for all of you contemplating a purchase, this is for you. First I will say that I owned an HP ZE4430US for 2 years and had pretty good luck, so I decided to purchase this one. I will say that my first impression is that they have cheapened a few things from my ZE4430. For example, I added a stick of 512MB memory to the unit. The ZE4430 had metal reinforced retaining clips. The ZV6000 is all plastic, and far from robust. It took a couple of tries to get the memory secured. The keyboard has a good feel, but the layout of the auxiliary (pg up, pg dn, etc...) seems a little odd. The touch pad and buttons seem fine, but my ZE4430 seemed fine until the buttons failed at a little over 1 year old. I had to download the Synaptics driver directly from Synaptics website because the scroll wheel feature didn't work in Firefox. Works fine now. The Power button feels cheap and I question how long it is going to last. I got many of the upgrades due to the nature of my work. I found the media card reader to be tight. Getting my Sony memory stick into the slot was tough. I felt like I was forcing it, but it worked fine. I got the brightview 15.4 and it is impressive when you are perpendicular to it. If you move up or down relative to it, it seems to dim considerably. If you are off to one side or the other it is still nice and bright and amazingly clear. The system performance is great! I got the AMD 64 3500+ and it is super fast.
Last but not least, battery life. I opted for the 12 cell battery. I really have not timed it, but I am impressed. My ZE4430 used batteries like water.I would not get more than an hour and a half on a charge - maybe 2 hours if I conserved. I run this ZV6000 with full bright screen for 2 hours and still have half battery life.
