abhester3's Full Review: Hewlett Packard LaserJet 2840 Printer
Bought this model after having some bad experiences with other cheaper brands that needed print heads that cost as much as the printer after a few ink catridges, require replacing color inks to print black (Just say NO to Brother!) or don't work well as network printers (Lexmark needs a 'network print spooler' that costs more than the printer!?!?). In my opinion it's in a totally different league than your usual big-box store printer and a cut above the higher end network capable inkjets, well worth the difference in price. Once I got it set up it's been pretty much seamless since...
But it's a pain to set up and get it to scan as the 'HP Director' software for the scanner clashed with my HP desktop (go figure), tech wasn't much help but I figured out how to configure my PC after searching online. But once set up it makes a fine network printer with few glitches, prints, faxes and scans well and fast enough for the home or home office environment. Issues: jams with single envelopes, clunky switches of paper size, expensive consumables and noisy 'calibration' just when you don't need the racket in the environment.
Tech support is an issue as noted above and though I faxed the sales receipt to HP they seem determined to use the date of manufacture for the beginning of the warranty, had to deal with this the few times I've called them, maybe it's finally sunk in.
