markon88's Full Review: Hewlett Packard LaserJet 2727NFS All-In-One Printe...
I have had this printer over a year and have been very happy with it. The model number I have is the 2727nf (n=network, f=fax). I am assuming the "s" on the model listed here refers to the optional stapler unit. The specs for this model also list it as a MAC printer, for your information it comes with drivers for both MAC and Windows. Using it on our small home-office network has been for the most part trouble free. I have had a couple of occasions where the machine hung on a print job, but deleting the job, and cycling the machine off and then on again corrected it. Keep in mind this is over a year of moderately heavy use, so I don't consider this a big deal.
If you need just a couple quick copies, this machine won't keep you waiting! The machine actually starts copying while it is scanning, so by the time you take the original off the glass (or out of the ADF) your copy is already coming out. I bought this machine to replace my Brother MFC 8860dn (see my review of that machine here), and while the Brother boasts a slightly faster copy-per-minute speed, I noticed that the HP starts much faster, and I don't have to wait for my copies.
The ADF works well, although on large scans (10 or more pages) it has a tendency to pull 2 sheets through at the same time. Keeping the pages fanned slightly at the end helps. One thing I can't figure out in the design of the machine is that the scanner is parked on the opposite end from the ADF, meaning that when you copy (or fax/scan) using the ADF, the scan light has to move into position, which takes a few seconds.
I have used the Duplex unit from the ADF and the printer and both work well. There is minimal page curl even after duplexing, and there is even a setting in the menu to reduce page curl. I have not tried it as I have not found it necessary.
A feature I find missing on this machine is the lack of a directory of the speed dials. You can access it through the menu, or through the network interface, but I like to be able to look at the machine and see at a glance and see what the speed dials are. Again this is not a big deal, as simply pressing the button shows the name/number in the screen.
This machine also offers the ability to fax directly from your computer, or receive faxes directly to your computer. You also have the ability to forward faxes to a completely different number. You can scan directly to a folder on your computer (requires set-up).
The other workers in the office found the machine easy to learn and use, and it required minimal set-up and user orientation.
Overall I find this machine to be a good choice for it's price range, and would recommend it for small/home office use where you need a mult-function machine. However, if you plan to print high volumes (500-1000 pages per month), I would reccomend using one of HP's standalone laser printers, as they are cheaper per-copy to operate.
