Update 5/27/2005:
The printer is still running strong. The print quality is excellent and no mechanical failures have occurred.
Update 12/28/2003:
After using this parallel printer for over two years, it still works great! The replacement color cartridges are a little pricey, but I can't say enough good things about build quality of this printer. If you're looking to print high detail photographs or create very hight quality scans, look elsewhere. Otherwise, this has been a very good low cost solution to an all-in-one printer/copier/fax/scanner. The new HP USB models look just as good and should be inherently faster.
Original Review 5/28/01:
This is a very good home office solution. I purchased it at WWW.EGGHEAD.COM and it has been very reliable. The copies are excellent (b&w and color) with good reproduction of previously scanned images. The integrated sheet-fed scanner was not designed for color photographs. A flatbed would produce much better results.
The print quality rating reflects the detail compared to the quality of the original (not including HP OfficeJet T45xi scanned photographs.) The printer only attaches to PCs using a Parallel Port interface and the transfer of data may take a good amount of CPU cycles (as most Parallel Port devices usually do with large jobs.)
The paper tray is small and only holds around 50 sheets of paper, so don't leave large print-jobs unattended. The integrated fax and simple buttons on the unit's face are very easy to use. You can make copies and send faxes without turning on your PC.
Overall, it will be a difficult to find a higher quality product for the price. One a closing note, remember to look at the price of replacement cartridges and their capacity before buying any printer.
