The Best Buy salesman (in their Citrus Park, FL, store) made a big deal about how, unlike the competition, the HP OfficeJet 6500 all-in-one printer came with full size ink cartridges, not “starter” cartridges. And the box and web site seem to say the same thing. But, after we got it set up, it turned out that HP had just changed their wording. The “regular” 920 cartridge is a mini, the real cartridge is a more expensive 920XL and – although there’s no clue on the box or the documentation, the 920’s packed in the box are deliberately filled only half full. When I loaded the included cartridges the machine, itself, said they were half full, so I called HP. Case Officer Amanda (877-917-4380, ext 985) said they deliberately pack half filled “host” cartridges with the machine, not the full “trade” 920’s they sell in stores. Although she conceded she knew of nowhere, on the box, in the documentation or on the web, that this is disclosed to buyers, she refused to replace the half filled 920’s with full ones, or do anything else about it. So buyers of a HP 6500 printer need to buy 4 new full size cartridges almost as soon as they buy the printer. That almost doubles the advertised price. It's also noisy and the setup is a real pain.
