Pros: Easy to use with lots of ways to get your photos on it.
Cons: Quit working shortly after year long warranty ended.
The Bottom Line: It's a good printer but, mine didn't work long past the warranty.

| anonimitie's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 7760 InkJet Printer |
Initially, I was very impressed with my HP Photosmart 7760. I bought it when it was being discontinued so got what I felt was a good deal on it. Though I rarely use it, the fact that it has an LCD screen really raises its coefficient of "Neat-O." I also like all the card readers it has. That's a common feature, and another that I rarely use for its intended purpose. I usually use the reader for data transfer between my PC and palm held's memory card.
Anyway, I was very happy with both the photo and "general" letter printing. Speed was good, pictures looked great, and I was making my friends crazy with all the pictures of my infant daughter I was mailing them. Then, after a little more than a year, well after the warranty had expired, it would only print in shades of green.
While I couldn't build a microchip, I'm definitely computer literate and I don't think it's something I did wrong. I've replaced the print cartridges, calibrated them, printed from the PC via USB, printed from the card reader, and tried different glosses and brands of photo paper. Everything I print has a green tinge. When my computer's hard drive crashed, I thought the silver lining would be a fresh start on the printer's drivers. Still no luck.
I was also unimpressed with the photo editing software included. It was the standard faire of croping, rotating, and red-eye elimination. Where it really fell short was it took an eternity to load thumbnails (From my hard drive vs. a USB connection) and I couldn't do anything while they were loading. It got to the point that I couldn't endure the load time to change the start-up directory to something with fewer pictures or turn off the thumbnail option.
It's disappointing because I was very happy with my Photosmart 7760 but, I expect electronics to be virtually indestructible. I still use non-photo, color printers I bought in the nineties. It's a shame that the 7760 barely lasted a year. I imagine I'm in the minority and that lots of people will get years of service from their 7760 but, be aware that not everyone does!
