My 19" HP monitor failed a few months after the expiration of the 12 month warranty--one day it was working fine, the next day it was dead. The issue appeared to be not with the screen, but with the power button, which flashed slowly instead of being lit constantly.
HP's attitude was simple: it is out of warranty -- we will not help in the least unless you pay us $200. Any repair would be $300. HP admitted that the monitor had suffered a hardware failure, but in their words -- "buy a new one".
HP's attitude was a disgrace. Their response was that 'no other company would help you for a product that is out of warranty'. Apparently HP will not stand behind its products the second their short warranty expires.
My recommendation is to find a company that has more than 12 months faith in its products. Dell, for example, gives a free 3-year warranty on its monitors.
