fhiga's Full Review: Hewlett Packard W2207 22 inch Monitor
I have a mid to high end computer that I use for gaming. Having had a 19" Samsung, I think it was time for me to upgrade to a decent 22" that can do 1680x1050 in games.
I picked this monitor up off TigerDirect.com for around $250.00, after looking at several Samsungs, LGs, Viewsonics and Dells, and after about 3 months of use, I have been very satisfied with this purchase.
At first I was unsure whether to pick up the w2207h which is basically the same as this w2207, except that it comes HDMI only, whereas the w2207 is DVI/VGA. Since my video cards (Radeons HD3870 in CrossfireX) have DVI outputs, I realized I stick with DVI for now, even though I had an DVI to HDMI adapter in hand. The w2207h was much higher in price, however (about $100 more expensive than this w2207).
First thing I was looking for in a monitor, was a glossy screen. Not sure why, but glossy screens seemed much brighter than the dull monitors. Since I don't have a window behind me, I realized that I could live with a glossy screen (take this into consideration before getting one of these, the glossy screen reflects everything behind you). Only downside, is that it collects lots of dust, and it's a pain having to clean it very often.
I also wanted a monitor with adjustability. This one is certainly great to adjust up and down, but you cannot do so left and right, but not big deal. The silver stand is great and it's one of the main features I love about this w2207. Adjustability. It also allows you to rotate the monitor 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise, to display your screen in portrait mode.
Now for the resolution, it does 1680x1050 at 59Hz, which is good enough to play games in great detail. Great vibrant colors.... The only other issue, is that the backlight seems to bleed a little unevenly when showing blacks on the screen (looks like cyan/light blue auras around the edges).
Other than that, after 3 months, very pleased with it, works perfectly with Windows Vista.
