sage420's Full Review: High Society [PA] by Kottonmouth Kings
After getting getting hooked on the Kottonmouth Kings first release, "Royal Highness", I rushed to smuggle "High Society" out of work before its release.
I have to admit it took me a while to get used to this album. The Kings had a line-up change since their first album as Johnny Richter replaced Saint on this album. The line up change made for a noticably different sound, as the band moved away from their slightly punk sound.
The album starts out with the always essential party tracks such as Daydreamin' Fazes, The Joint, and Face Facts. Politically charged tracks follow with the hardcore cut featuring Corporate Avenger titled Peace Not Greed, Anarchy Through Capitalism, and We The People. There are also many soft tracks such as King's Blend and The Lottery which are awesome once you get lit. DJ-Bobby B shows off his sh*t as the album evolves on tracks like Elevated Sounds and Un Xplanitory.
The best part about the musical content is that it ingeniously blends punk, reggae, and hip-hop for a completely original style. The lyrical content explains frustration with the corrupt close-minded US government as they keep the war on pot when they should be improving education and reforming our rediculously high tax rates. The rythms are catchy and you'll find yourself singing their songs for weeks after hearing them.
This album is great for any pot-head, party hopper, or even politically influenced intelligent kids.
The album gets long winded at times but can be enjoyed in parts.
I also recommend getting Royal Highness and Checking out Corporate Avenger's new CD The New Testament
