I love feeding my cats an occasional treat. I have three and while one them prefers popcorn, two of them really enjoy canned cat food. One of those I offered them recently was Science Diet Savory Salmon Entree which is intended for cats aged 1-6 years old.
My cats are all 7-10 years old now, but I still generally feed them Adult cat foods. I have not noticed any problems. Also, in the case of these canned foods, it is not their main diet, so I am not too concerned.
This 5.5 ounce can is made of metal and recycleable. It also allows for easy stacking, which I take advantage of. It has a pull tab to open and for this reason I don't allow my son to open it, so he doesn't have a chance to cut his hand on the sharp edges.
I am glad that salmon is the first meat item, since that is the flavor of this food, but was disappointed that by-products was the third ingredient.
This food didn't smell too horrible, as I know some food can tend to. It is a brown color, not pretty pink like you might hope for from salmon. But my cats didn't seem to care about the color or the smell, they wanted the taste, they ate this cat food right up. While I will admit my cats like most canned foods they did seem to eat this one slightly faster than others I've offered. It says you can cover and refrigerated unused potions but there was nothing left over to put in the fridge.
Overall I don't feel bad about feeding this food. It is intended to be the cat's soul source of nutrition, with a guildline of 1 1/3 to 1 3/4 cans per 10lbs of cat. My cats are a little lighter than that, but still that would be a lot of food to feed them each, each day. So snacktime it is. My cats love it, it's easy to store, pretty easy to serve (I just tap it into a dish), doesn't smell too bad, and has salmon as the first ingredient that's not water. Only negative is the by-products.
