| AshleyA's Full Review: Hill's Science Diet Hills Science Diet Hairball Co... |
I am the proud co-owner of two short-haired hair factories. With the hair inevitably comes hairballs.
To give you all a bit of background, one of our cats sheds significantly more than the other, but it is the cat who sheds less who has consistently had a problem with dry heaves versus heaves that produce hairballs. We started feeding them the Hill's Science Diet Adult formula to see if changing the food would help. It produced no results, so I incorporated feeding them a malty-tasting hairball paste once a day. Still nothing. We then decided that maybe it was the Science Diet brand itself, so we decided to give Iams a try. It cut down on the occurrence of the dry heaves, but it still didn't help our little kitty disgorge her hairballs. Throughout our experimentation, our other cat remained resilient to hacking up hairballs.
We then decided to switch back to Science Diet but this time we went the Hairball Control Formula route. A few days after our cats started voraciously scarfing down the food, we discovered quite a few landmines that our hairball-stricken cat was able to purge. Since then, we have stuck to the formula, and her dry heaves are infrequent these days. The frequency of hairballs has noticeably diminished, and she's still as energetic, frisky and spoiled as ever.
For cats who run at the sight of the brush, we plan to keep sticking to this diet until something else changes. One thing that we have noticed is that much of the food goes to waste because the pieces are a tad bigger than bite-sized for our rather small-statured cats. They will take a piece and chew it up, but more often than not, there is usually a large crumb or wedge that falls out of their mouths during dinnertime that they will never ever consume. I have yet to determine if this is a case of being spoiled rotten and finicky or if it actually has to do with the triangular pieces.
