| Susie-34668's Full Review: Hills Science Diet Prescription Canine t/d |
As you may have read a review I wrote about a month ago, you will know that my cat Y.T. is getting ready to pass away. Len and I had been watching him eat a cat treat one day, then nothing the next. He would drink water from the toilet bowl, but now he is too wobbly to stand on his hind legs to get the water. He has had the odd bowl of milk too.
I have said "Goodbye" to him several times and had a cry, but on Friday I just knew I had to give him one last chance. I telephoned my vet and asked the receptionist if there was anything he might eat. She phoned me back just before closing time and said that I was to bring him into the office. I told her that if there were nothing he could have, then I would keep him a few more days. If he were in pain then I would have him put to sleep. The vet, himself then came on the phone, and said that they had Hill's Prescription diet cat food and that I could add water to it, and give it in a syringe. I asked what time they were closing and just had enough time to get there. 3 cans of food and the syringe were waiting for me. The vet also had a little note in the bag explaining what I should do.
The instructions were on force-feeding. That really upset me, but Len and I decided that we would do it the rest of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If Y.T. wasn't eating on his own by Monday, then it was God's will.
The food smelled really good. I could smell fish over any of the other ingredients in the can. I got a Pyrex bowl and forked out some food, then added water, and mixed it really well. I then syringed up the food. The syringe held 35 units and the first time I got 22 in it. Len held Y.T. while I administered the food. We did this transaction on an old towel, right in the middle of the tiled kitchen floor. Good job too because food ended up everywhere. As the evening progressed I did better and Y.T. got more. As soon as it was in his mouth his tongue came out and he was licking like crazy. He even licked some off the floor, and I was starting to think this might get easier.
Saturday I completely filled the syringe and managed to get 2 of them into Y.T. He even started to lick his coat where some of the Hills Prescription diet food had clumped on it. He was perkier and started to weave around Len and myself.
Q.T., my really fat 18 year old has been in his element. He has been like a vacuum cleaner licking the floor, bowl, and even washing his brother, and that never happened before. He absolutely adores the food, but at $1.37 a can, he will only get the leftovers. He will eat anything that's put in front of him, or anything he shouldn't eat.
Sunday, again I managed to get 2 syringes of food into Y.T. His tummy is a little fuller and he does seem more content. Whatever the secret of this food is, it is a winner with sick animals. I still have one and a half cans left and now plan on still mixing it with a little water, but praying that Y.T. will eat on his own. I cannot go through any more force feeding as it is just too upsetting for me. If Y.T. eats on his own I will be so happy. If not then I did the best I could.

Both Monday and today, Tuesday, I have put Hills prescription food down for Y.T. He has not eaten anything. I have tried milk and water. I have been beside myself trying to do what is right for him. I am not going to force feed him and upset him.
Len and I will just cuddle Y.T. and give him lots of love. If we think he is in pain, or he has difficultly standing, then we will take him to be put to sleep. I just want my last days to be quiet and loving for him.
I think this product is great. If I could have got 4 syringes down him every day he could have survived on that. The vet told me he would have everything he needed. The price is a little high at $1.37 a can, but this food is only for a limited time, just to get your sick animal back on tracks.
My Q.T. just loves it. He has got to eat even more than normal. He has cleared every plate Y.T. has left. I'm sure he has gained considerable weight. Not a good thing for him.
I go to England on the 12th August, and luckily this year Len will be home. If Y.T. doesn't go before then, at least Len will be there at the end. For a cat with a heart murmur he has had 15 good years.
Thanks for reading and being there for me.
Susie.
