I had a reservation for the Hilton Garden Inn Boston / Burlington and knew check in time was 3 p.m., or later if you made arrangements for a late arrival. At 9:30 a.m. I was at their front desk. I wanted to let them know I was there, but would be in Boston until late evening. Instead they let me know there was a 2 queen bed room open and I could go ahead and check in. The front desk clerk also signed us, my mother and I, up for the free 10:30 shuttle to Anderson station to catch the train into Boston. I was impressed and relieved that my morning had been made relatively stress free. I had my room and didn't have to battle the Boston area traffic trying to find an unfamiliar destination.
Our room, as I had requested in my reservation, was on a higher floor, away from the elevator. Entering the room I was again impressed. Everything I could want in a hotel room was there and it was clean.
A tall, wooden cabinet housed a coffee maker, microwave and mini-refrigerator. A 26 inch flat screen HDTV sat on a dresser. A desk/table with a shallow drawer was accompanied by a comfortable desk chair. On the desk was a lamp that had a base with two plug ins. That came in handy for for recharging our cell phones. In other hotels we had stayed at on this vacation we had to crawl under or around things to get to electrical outlets. The desk area also had a phone and extra phone jacks for those wanting to connect to the hotel's free high-speed internet.
The pillow top queen beds were covered with 4 non-allergenic feather pillows. The tan and gold accent pillow gave a splash of color to the otherwise all white bedding. After walking from one of Boston's wharfs to Beacon Hill, and several points in between, I couldn't wait to fall into my bed. I wasn't disappointed. It was the only hotel, of the 6 we stayed at on this trip, that had a bed that didn't give me any extra aches and pain other than what my arthritis normally causes. It I could have I would have dragged that bed home with me. My mother wanted to bring home the pillows.
A nightstand with a table lamp, telephone and a clock/radio with MP3 connection stood between the two beds. An easy chair and ottoman sat in the corner between my bed and the window. The decent sized closet had double, mirrored doors that opened up to find an iron and ironing board.
Even with everything this room had to offer, we had plenty of room for our luggage and to move around.
The bathroom was of average size. A granite counter gave it a touch of class, but it was otherwise a typical hotel bathroom. My mom was thrilled with the Neutrogena bath products that were provided. The toilet worked well, which was a definite plus considering another hotel we had stayed at seemed to have a problem with that. A curved shower rod held the curtain away from the shower/tub combo. The water was a bit touchy trying to get it to a decent temperature, but when I did get it to the temperature I wanted it maintained it throughout the shower. The Waterpik showerhead...what can I say except I want one.
The services and amenities list is a long one and I did not use many of them. I did check out the pool and whirlpool area and it appeared to be clean. I did observe a family and a young couple enjoying them. The exercise room was small, but well stocked. Six machines, a water cooler and towels were available for use.
As I mentioned before, the Hilton Garden Inn Boston / Burlington has a free shuttle. I am not sure what the range is, but it got us to Anderson Station to catch a train into Boston. It was an approximately 20 minute ride in to the city. After arriving back at the station I called the hotel for pick-up and the driver was there in about 15 minutes. Both drivers we had were courteous and cautious. I am a terrible passenger. I get nervous about everything and my mouth lets the driver know. On both drives I was relaxed and enjoying the skill of the driving and the knowledge of the area that the drivers had.
If I visit the Boston area again I would definitely stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Boston / Burlington. There was a 20 minute train ride to Boston, but we considered it part of the Boston experience. The hotel, and especially our room, was clean and comfortable. The employees were courteous, helpful and at times amusing. And, I got all of this for approximately $98 + tax.
