| bubbajames's Full Review: Hitachi Finish Nailer NT50AE |
I am very Impressed with Hitachi air tools. They are the dominant brand in my air tool arsenal. This is the third Hitachi air nailer that I have come to own and I can honestly say that it won't be the last.
Many people might not see Hitachi as a pro grade brand but they are, especially in Air Powered tools. The pale green nailers and air compressors are becoming more and more popular with the contractor set. If you don't believe me, go to the Fine Homebuilding sight and check the discussions. Or check out reviews from Tools Of the Trade, a trade magazine that focuses on contractor tools.
Many shoppers at Amazon are contractors as well. These are all places that I researched nail guns before taking the plunge.
The fact that Lowes had this on clearance and I walked away with it for about fifty dollars didn't hurt either!
I am very happy with the performance of my 15 gauge Hitachi finish nailer(see review, please) so when I saw this 18 guage Hitachi brad nailer on clearance at lowes, I did not hesitate one bit.
This gun has given great service, shooting dozens of nails with no misfires, jams or double fires. This tool is replacing my old Porter Cable that has a broken depth of drive mechanism. The Hitachi build quality just seems so much better than the Porter Cables. The tool come in a nice, sturdy green plastic blow molded case along with a standard air fitting, hex keys and safety glasses. The tool is all metal in it's construction, insuring many years of durable and reliable service! The five year warranty is amoung the best. The finish on the tool is an eye pleasing pale green that Hitachi uses on its air tools as opposed to the hideous green that appears on their electric power tools.(they look like consumer grade garbage;or even worse, kids toys!) I see them begining to bring this hideous green into their air tools also, and I wish they had done the opposite. Many of my friends and I are turned off to the idea of their power tools for this reason. Maybe if all Hiachi tools were the Pale green, they would be taken more seriously.
his tool will fire standard 18 guage brad nails from 3/4 of an inch to 2 inches in length. The air exhaust port is adjustable to prevent you from getting blasted with air everytime you pull the trigger. The depth of drive is easily and smoothly adjusted, without tools! There is a comfortable rubber grip and the tool has excellent balance. Weighing in at only 3 pounds, this tool won't tire you out.
This tool would be great in furniture making, cabinetry, and doing light moulding work around a house. While baseboard and casement trim around windows ad doors would be possible, I recoment the Hitachi NT65A (see review) for door casings and crown mouldings.
