Pros: cheaper than the big welders, easy to move around
Cons: the welder has to be elevated for the wire to feed through the welder
I started using mig welders about two years ago. Before that, I had always used the old fashioned ark welding. Once you get used to the mig welders, they are much more efficient than the ark welders. You can weld much faster with the mig than you can with the stick welders. a couple of downsides to the mig welders is that the wire will stick to the end of the stinger or it will tangle up in the welder. You also have to change the wire when your spool runs out.
I have owned twp mig welders over the past two years. The Hobart Handler 135 MIG Welder is the third mig welder that I have bought. I do a lot of work outside of my shop and I thought that it would be easier to pack the small Hobart welder around with me than to take my big mig welders. Once I started using this welder, I found that the wire does not feed through very well when the welder is not elevated. I became a hassle to try and elevate the welder to make the wire feed through. Rather than bringing the small Hobart welder with me I brought my big welders because they worked no matter where they were.
I later found that if I elevated the welder that the wire would feed through. I hung the welder from the ceiling of my shop. This got rid of the hassle of having the lead tangling up because it was in the air. I put the welder on some rollers hanging from the ceiling so that I could move the welder around the shop. This is now the welder that I always used while at the shop. It is nice to have the leads out of the way and it is easier than packing the big welders around the shop.
I would recommend this welder to you if you don't have to take it around with you on the job. If you are able to elevate the welder, this welder is hard to beat. It will get the job done.
I bought my Hobart welder for around 600 dollars. This welder has 115 volts, which is enough for most people. I like this welder because it is cheaper than the big welders, but it will still get the job done.
