Have you ever been a city that has plenty of hotels, but you cant find anywhere to stay. While, the concept might sound odd, Ive been there. There is a hotel on every block, but its so run-down and shabby, that you cant imagine staying there. Thus was our luck in Aberdeen, Washington. Of numerous hotels, only one was modern and it was completely filled. With a few trips few town, we left just as quickly as we came, finding ourselves on the road to Ocean Shores, Washington - a resort town where we could surely find a place to stay
and we did at the Holiday Inn Express.
Our check-in at the hotel was uneventful, it did take a few minutes with a few arriving guests in front of us and only one person staffed at the desk, but not an extremely long wait. The hotel didnt seem extremely busy, even with its ocean front view, the weather during our stay in late May wasnt nice enough for as much as a walk on the beach, so its location, was not its selling point for us. Regardless, if you go later in the summer, this hotel is as close to the beach as any other located on Ocean Shores Blvd, if it were any closer the hotel would be in the water at high tide.
The hotel had plenty of parking, but the main entrance doesnt offer much nearby parking. Even with it being the off season we still had to walk a bit to get back in the hotel. The hotel is quite large and each room window is angled to look out on the ocean.
Our Room
offered plenty of space. The entry included an open closet with a full enclosed bathroom to one side. The room also had a dresser with a TV On top and a lowboy. Our room had 2 queen beds with a nightstand in between. The room also had a small table and 2 chairs next to the window.
My only real issue with the room was the actual window. The window could be fully opened, about 30 inches and we were on the 3rd floor with my two year old son. I eventually got the lock engaged to keep it shut, but it was very corroded, at least it worked
Fresh!
One thing I love about Holiday Inn Express (not just this one, but many of them) is their step away from non-washed bed items (you know the crazy bedspreads). The beds are decked out in an assortment of sheets and blankets which can easily be cleaned for each new guest.
Each bed also had 4 pillows (2 soft, 2 firm), which helps getting comfortable that much easier, especially for me.
Breakfast
Another great thing about HIE is their breakfast and these are pretty uniform through out the chain. Here, they offer breakfast for 3 hours each morning which (for us) included cinnamon rolls; hot items like eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy; a few cold cereals; oatmeal; muffins and much more. Beverages included milk, juice or coffee.
Amenities
HIE at Ocean Shores has most of the basic amenities. In room youll find a coffee maker with supplies, an iron and ironing board and hairdryer. Out of the room they have a small pool area which also has a whirlpool and a fitness center (small, but available).
Overall
All-in-all our stay at the Holiday Inn Express was pleasant, the employees were courteous and polite, the rooms were clean and everything seemed in order. I wouldnt hesitate to return to this hotel in the future (I would only hope that the weather was better).
