First time at the HIE Rapid City

Pros: Easy to find, express checkout, nice breakfast spread
Cons: Soft mattress, mildew on the shower curtain
The Bottom Line: It was ok, could have been a bit cleaner, firmer mattress would be nice. On a budget, ok, otherwise go somewhere else.

This is the first time that we've stayed in a Holiday Inn Express. At first approach, the building looked presentable enough. The desk was helpful and got us our room promptly.
We went to the room and looked around. Seemed ok. So we stayed. After sitting down, and relaxing, kicking off the socks and shoes, I noticed that the carpet seemed different. It felt greasy, or something. May be there was too much cleaning fluid in the carpet? I'm not sure but I can wear my socks around the room.
My wife hopped in the shower. She noticed that the shower curtain had mildew buildup on it. She really doesn't like mold and mildew, so she made her shower quick.
At home we have an extra-firm mattress. At Holiday Inn Express, we had an extra-soft mattress. We didn't like it. Kind of like the ride of an old cadillac. Soft, fluffy, can't feel the road.
One of the main reasons we chose the HIE is because of the good breakfast spread. It was generous and quite fresh. Fresh fruit, frozen fruit, bagels, toast, cereal, juices, milk, coffee, tea, and more. This made up for some of the other shortcomings.
We didn't get a chance to check out any of the other amenities but they do have an indoor pool.
Overall, the stay was a quick night and it was ok. The price was right.
