| videodude's Full Review: Holiday Inn Select DOWNTOWN & SPA SAN FRANCISCO |
The Holiday Inn in San Francisco's Financial District is a tall glass of water located on the outskirts of it's financial mega-center, conveniently next to the Bay area's Chinatown district.
When entering the lobby, you'll find a modern and rather stylish baroque marble floor covering the entire area. To your right, will be an expensive jewelry store and not a cheesy gift shop. That's where Chinatown comes in handy. Located in the center of the lobby is a clean waiting area with comfortable seats and couches to wait upon. The service at the lobby is impeccable and the attendants are very timely in fulfilling your request. The general atmosphere is more oriented toward refined business-society types than it would be to the tourist. But there's no such thing.
When using the elevators, you'll go to a rather high level and into the quiet hallways of this fairly sized hotel and enter your room. The rooms, for what their worth are good but I would strongly recommend them for business travel and on the company's dime. The prices are pretty outrageous for a Holiday Inn, but given the location that's why they charge so much. Not to mention it is the city so everything's naturally expensive. There are two beds with the standard hotel issue comforters, blankets, and pillows for your sleeping needs. There's a spotless white bathroom with the mirror that takes up half the wall. You can also find the available complimentary bathing accessories. The 27" color television set has all the basic cable channels as well as HBO and a per room charge movie menu.
Now divulging more info, the rooms are decent and would be your standard hotel room but for some reason, it seems like the size is somewhat of an issue. As the beds are close to each other in proximity. You can request towels and bath issued items and they will provide them in a timely service as requested, along with a wakeup call. But the Holiday Inn at the Financial District is really overpriced for what it's worth. You're better off staying somewhere else for a cheaper price. When my aunt wanted to visit, she wanted to stay for three days and the total amount was over $600! Certainly not worth the stay despite decent service that you could find at any other hotel.
Now, the location is terrific. You're a stone's throw away from Chinatown, the Embarcadero, North Beach, Downtown, and Fisherman's Wharf. You can walk anywhere and you'll find something to do without any hassle. If you were to walk up from the hotel, you'll literally find yourself in Chinatown in mere seconds. There are restaurants, shops, and sights for tourists to look around. The view from the hotel is worthy of a picture itself but if you're afraid of heights, then you should definitely get a lower floor.
The parking at the Holiday Inn is located at the ground floor in a garage. It's a steep $55 price for your stay but there's ample parking. However, the spaces are rather small but enough to fit in. They also have a conveyer belt handy for luggage with the help of the bellhop.
All in all, I would recommend the Holiday Inn at the Financial District, for a travelling businessman on the company's dime. It's way too expensive for a vacational stay that you're better off saving a little money somewhere else, while being in reach of the same thing this hotel has.
