Pros: Tastes good, you do drop some weight, decent quick fix
Cons: It's overpriced juice, hard to stick to, temporary fix
The Bottom Line: Results were minimal but noticable. If you can get past the fact that you're paying $20 for a bottle of juice, it's a decent quick fix.

The Hollywood 48-hour Miracle Diet works. Of course, it's more of a juice fast than a diet and I bought it because I was curious about juice fasting, but was afraid that if I did it on my own, I might not get enough nutrients...I was also a little intrigued by the prospect of losing 10 pounds in 48 hours. This "diet" seemed like a no brainer. In my case, it didn't live up to it's promise of 10lbs in 48 hours, but then again, I'm tiny...5'1" 115lbs, very low body fat to begin with.
The diet comes in the form of juice packaged in a clear plastic bottle. It's a 48-hour juice fast. Actually, it's a juice concentrate. It's orange, like the color of Tang and my first impression upon smelling it was that it smelled like a big bottle of vitamins. It's very pleasant tasting, like a gourmet fruit punch, the most recognizable flavor that I could discern was apricot...it tastes similar to apricot nectar. It is thick when mixed and I disagree with those who say that it tastes like Sunny Delight, I didn't find it to be very citrusy.
Here's how it works: The 32 ounce bottle contains 8 servings of juice concentrate. You mix 4 ounces of concentrate with 4 ounces of water, then you sip it over the course of 4 hours. You do this 4 times a day. During the time that you're on the diet, you are encouraged to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day and not to have any food, alcohol, caffeine, or tobacco.
I mixed my juice servings at 8am, noon, 4PM, and 8PM. I drank the first one a little too fast...didn't quite last until noon...2 ounces of juice per hour is not a lot, it takes some getting used to. I felt fine until about 2 PM, but then I got a horrible migraine from not having any caffeine. I usually have a cup of coffee and 2 cups of green tea before noon, so the absence of those really affected me. Because I didn't have anything in my stomach, I didn't want to take anything for the migraine so I just waited it out. Suprisingly, my energy level was pretty normal throughout most of the day, but by 6PM, the migraine was a blinding sheet of pain and I was so weak that all I could do was lay on the couch. The migraine go so bad, that I mixed the last batch of juice at 8, but never drank it. I went to bed at 9 and woke up periodically throughout the night with that horrible migraine.
On day 2 of the diet, I woke up at 6:30 am. My head hurt so badly that I could barely lift it from the pillow and it was difficult for me to get out of bed because I felt very weak and fatigued. It was so bad that I cheated and had 1/4 cup of raisin bran with a splash of milk and 1/2 cup of black coffee. Within an hour or so, my head felt much better and I had a little bit of energy. I followed the same juice schedule on day 2 as I did on day 1 and the migraine crept back at about 1 PM, so I had another 1/2 cup of black coffee and that took care of the migraine for the rest of the day. Day 2 was much easier energy wise and I was even able to do a little light weight training. On day 2, I was able to finish all 4 servings of juice. I drank all 8 glasses of water on both days.
I don't know about detoxifying or rejuvinating my body like the bottle says, but I lost about 4 pounds. Because I weight train, I noticed a little more muscle definition than usual, but I wouldn't say that I really looked any thinner. I suspect that I lost all water weight. Scientifically, you have to burn over 3,000 calories to lose a pound, so it's actually not possible for you to lose 10 lbs of real weight in 48 hours, you'd have to burn more than 30,000 calories to achieve that type of real weight loss. If you stick to the diet, and just drink the juice, you're living on 400 calories a day. There might be concern that doing something like this would slow the metabolism into famine mode, but I suspect that the small about of juice that you consume has enough sugar to trick your body and keep your metabolism going at the normal rate.
Nutritionally, the juice seems to be super-fortified with antioxidents. 1 serving contains 75% of the recommended daily allowance for Vitamins A, C, D, E, B6, B12, Thiamion, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folic Acid, and Pantothenic Acid. That means that you're getting 300% of the recommended daily allowance of these nutrients. Additionally, per serving, the juice has 20mg sodium, 25g carbs, and 22g sugars. it has no protein, fat, or cholesterol. The juice contains pineapple, apple, orange, and grape juice concentrates as well as apricot, peach, and banana purees.
I don't know that this "diet" works any better or worse than anything else that restricts you to 400 calories a day. My changes were very slight, and my weight fluctuates because of my fitness habits so it is difficult to say if they are lasting. I'm guessing that they're not because the directions on the bottle say that for best results, you should use it once a week! I think they must be crazy because I don't know anyone who would subject themselves to the Hollywood Juice Torture once a week, every week.
I suspect that the heavier you are the more weight you might lose, but this is definitely a quick fix. The upside of using this diet is that it is super-fortified, so it's probably safer than most other methods of quick fix weight loss. I would use it again, but only if I really need to firm up in a hurry...I'll take my weight loss slow and lasting, thank you!
