Pros:Not expensive. Does produce some heat. Oscillates
Cons:Nothing special about the heat output. Won't cook spuds.
The Bottom Line: This is an OK heater that just didn't meet my expectations. For someone with modest requirements, it might suffice.
I bought this heater last year to replace a smaller ceramic heater. My thinking was that this newer twin ceramic heater would heat the bathroom faster and to a greater degree than the replaced one. Not realizing that Patton is a brand under the Holmes umbrella, I recently discovered this model listed on Epinions. Examining the original box closely I now notice the Holmes name on the side of the box and on the bottom in a smallish font. The Patton Oscillating Twin Ceramic Heater is rugged and durable and has an Industrial Heavy Duty Patton Promise five-year warranty. It says so on the box at least. With a new winter approaching many are shopping for new space heaters. Was the Patton a substantial upgrade over the heater it replaced? Is it one you would want to consider?

Description and Dimensions
According to my Royal ® postal scale, the Patton Twin Ceramic Heater weighs a few ounces past five pounds, a couple tablespoons more than a five pound bag of sugar. Against the dark gray color of its body, the light silver color lettering of: PATTON, TEMP, POWER, OFF, ON, OSCILLATE, and CAUTION is easy to read.
According to informal measurements (technician in jeans and T) this appliance is approximately 10 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 7 inches deep. The body of the heater oscillates atop a footed base on which is an oscillating on/off switch.
On top of the heater are two dials. The selector dial has three settings – off, low heat, and high heat. The temperature dial looks much like that found in many cars with the blue range of the circle for cool and the red for hot progressively increasing in temperature from low to high. There are no number or symbols settings printed.
On the heater’s back is a washable, thin, flimsy filter held in place by a flimsy plastic grate. It’s not too difficult to remove and replace the filter.
The power cord is about 74 inches in length.
The heater is rated 120 volts AC, 12.5 amps, 60Hz.
I generously gave Mrs. Spudman the heater replaced by the new twin ceramic heater for use in her bathroom. I’m thinking twin means double, therefore double the heat. The target bathroom for the Patton heater is large and adjoins a walk in closet making the area to heat even larger. It’s a strange design. The bathroom is also on a shaded corner of the house and is always cold. At this point in the review I should mention that it is recommended that these space heaters NOT be used in bathrooms. I am a documented rule breaker though.
I plugged in the heater and turned it on anticipating a robust surge of heat. Instead the heat blowing out of the fan was relatively weak, like a fan on its lowest setting. Choosing the high or low setting on the dial does make a little difference in heat output. The fan is actually busier and noisier in the low wattage setting.
I haphazardly choose settings, while a saner person might just use the more economical, lower wattage setting consistently.
In the oscillating mode there are additional sounds as the unit turns jerkily from side to side. Sometimes the extra, irritating noise compels me to turn off the oscillating feature.
As with many space heaters, one is directed to turn the temperature setting to the highest mark and then turn it back until the unit shuts off when a comfortable temperature is reached. That setting then becomes one at which the dial remains. In my case I’ve never reached a desired temperature in the room so the heater remains on its highest setting.
I usually only use the heater when taking a shower. Turning on the heater ten minutes before shower does take a little chill out of the air.
The plastic housing stays cool to the touch during and after operation. Only the front metal grates become hot.
The bottom line is that I’m disappointed by the heater’s performance. It does heat but not to the degree I had hoped it would. Meanwhile Mrs. Spudman’s bathroom is nice and toasty using my former little heater. I tried to talk her into a trade, but she’d have none of it.
Our Honeywell space heater successfully heats the much larger bedroom area and is more effective than the Patton.
One would be wise NOT to buy the Patton Oscillating Twin Ceramic Heaterto warm a large area or difficult to heat rooms. For some applications this heater would probably be adequate.
UPDATE: I use this heater at work now, and although it gets many hours of use it's still running strong. I'd have to give this heater an A for longevity and endurance, at least.
