Pros:These slippers are comfortable, relaxing and long-lasting at a good price.
Cons:Poor instructions for battery placement, slight design problem.
The Bottom Line: Homedics Messaging Slippers are a great, comfortable, inexpensive way to pamper yourself. The comfort of these shoes outweighs slight design problems.
A good friend of mine bought me a pair of Homedics brand massaging slippers this past Christmas and I was immediately excited. My interest is always piqued whenever I see any of the products produced to make us feel better, whether it be vibrating massage chairs, foot massagers, or microwavable pillows that one applies to the face or neck for pain comfort.

I am rarely moved to spend the money on any of these products though, perhaps a little worried that they will disappoint me.
Homedics, which makes a wide variety of comfort appliances, including padded massage devices for chairs and various foot products, did not disappoint. These slippers are available in both men's and women's sizes and in a variety of colors for a reasonable price of 15 to 18 dollars. The faux suede exterior and fleece lining make the slippers exceptionally comfortable.
Styled like house shoes, these slippers use a styrofoam type of base on which the faux suede exterior is attached. The foot slips into a cover on the shoes front, leaving the rear or heel of the shoe unattached. This was one of the two small issues I had with these slippers. The only time the rear of the shoe adheres closely to the foot is when you are standing. Since the slippers aren't meant to be used while standing or walking, this means they tend to fall away from the foot at the heel whenever the vibration feature is being used.
My second small complaint was the difficulty I had in finding the battery compartment into which I had to insert four double A batteries. Using the instructions, it was easy to locate the zipper on the side of the slippers and to pull it back. The Shoe's material, however, was glued securely enough to the styrofoam base that it was difficult to tell which part of the shoe came apart for battery insertion. I actually damaged the first shoe slightly before finding that the styrofoam pulls away from the fabric at a spot in the back where a compartment opens for battery placement. Once I got the shoe back together the damage was unnoticable and, given the slippers rugged construction, I don't think it will be a problem.
These small issues aside, I found the slippers to be comfortable and therapeutic. The vibration is very nice and is long-lasting. Since the slippers can not be plugged into an outlet, my fear was that batteries would not last long. I have used the shoes several times a week for at least twenty minutes at a time and the batteries have lasted nicely.
I think the company should consider a design change that would enable the slippers to cling better at the heel. Better battery installation instructions would also help.
Homedics Messaging Slippers are very comfortable, inexpensive and well-made though. The price is right as well. Look for these slippers at health and beauty stores like Bed, bath and Beyond at an expected price of 15 to 18 dollars. Remember that the vibration feature is not meant to be used while standing or walking.
Then slip them on and sit back and rest a spell.
