I definitely believe he was tired of the characters by the sixth novel - it really seemed to show. He did the best thing and concluded the series, despite what his original intention was.

The period pieces were wonderful. I was upset, though, at how much the miniseries' stuck to the books in the beginning, then began changing as they got towards the end.

it would be interesting to visit Jake's new set of characters. His last few novels on the Kent family left me pretty cold. In my opionion, he is a good author when his heart is in it.

I absolutely loved The Bastard and North and South when they ran on TV. I thought they were two of the most fascinating mini-series I had ever read.
