The 2003 Honda Pilot is a great SUV for first time SUV drivers. Though for some that have driven SUV's before, it lacks a few things that older SUV's have and also has some good points. The first good point is the Insurance. Having great crash-ratings, it's insurance is a lot lower than other SUV's. The second is the mileage. It gives excellent Gas mileage, especially for highway driving. The handling is little loose, with the loose steering. It would take time to get used to the control. Though, for an SUV it can make a sharp U-turn in probably 2 lanes. It may not look as big from the outside, but is really roomy from the inside, especially for tall people, due to it's height inside the car. The third row seating is mostly for kids. There is not enough room for adults to stretch, and also not enough room to site straight. This 3rd row is great for kids, mostly because they can't open any doors. Toyota compares this Honda SUV to its Highlander, but the Highlander is not as big as the Pilot, and also they suggest Premium Gas for the Highlander, which does'nt make any sense. Honda suggests Regular gas, which also keeps the cost down a lot.
Also, the Pilot does not come with some standard features that you will find in most cars. For example: no option to add sun-roof, passenger seat-belt indicator, rear mud-guards
Navigation/DVD: Since the Pilot does not offer both, the choice is to get either. If you have kids go for the DVD System, since the Navigation system is rarely used by families. But if you want both, get the Navigation system when you purchase the Pilot. You can then purchase an after-market DVD player with any size screen you want. But doing it the other way around, raises the delimma of where to install the Navigation system, and won't look as good if it is on the Dashboard.
