Honda Pilot SUV 2003

by zonk1972: Written: Feb 14 '04

Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Great Standard features, competitive pricing to comparable SUV's.
Cons: Not very stylish, a little stiff driving.
The Bottom Line: In this over-priced auto world, the $31,750 leather equipped Honda Pilot is a great value.

I have been leasing the Honda Pilot for almost 10 months now and the more I use it, the more I like it. I was going to originally lease the Acura MDX but, at 6'4" and 235lbs., I was not very comfortable in the front seat. Acura makes a great SUV but, you have to be comfortable driving. Anyhow, when I went to test drive the Honda, as soon as I sat in the seat, I was excited (but of course I did not let the salesperson know that). Honda makes Acura so, the cars were very similar. I heard Honda made good cars and they do give a lot of options as standard. I opted for the leather trimmed version. The car automatically shifts in 4 wheel drive when it detects slipping. I had to always shift my Explorer and Pathfinder in 4-wheel drive when needed. This was always a pain because you had to keep it under 50 MPH. So, when you hit dry spots on main plowed roads, you needed to shift back out of 4-wheel drive. The car is not the most stylish or best looking SUV out there but, the ride is great. With three little daughters, they wanted to sit in the third row seats. The two little girls did but, the 11 year old was kind of big for the seat. I now keep the third row completely folded down to utilize the whole back for storage. It does hold a lot when the seats are folded. The ride is kind of stiff on the highway but, the 6 cylinder engine has enough horsepower when necessary. I am very happy with the SUV and the more I see other SUV's out there, the more I love my Pilot. I wish it had automatic headlights though.
