We purchased our Pilot 2003 used two years ago. Miles were high ( 75 K), but price was right ( $18,000 at Toyota dealer with 3% car loan). Pilot, as other Honda vehicles, holds value pretty well. I still see 2003 Pilots for over 20 G's if miles are low. New Pilot will set you back at least 30K.
We have 4 kids, and Pilot's 3rd row of seats is a great thing, although access is somewhat akward and seats are big enough for small kids only. Seats can be folded very easy to have flat cargo area. There is a nifty storage compartment between front seats. Cabin is very quiet and nicely finished. nothing jazzy though, grey plastic everywhere.
This SUV drives very nice, almost car-like. Power steering does not work very well if you don't give enough gas.Since this SUV is full time AWD, you need to change all 4 tires at the same time. Repairs are expensive. We paid $900 to fix oil leak ( main seal), which started right after regular service done by Honda dealer. I wrote a letter to Honda, but no answer. V-6 is strong but somewhat thirsty ( but supposely Pilot has the best gas millage in its class). We are getting 16-18 miles per gallon. Towing 12 ft trailer made it down to 12. Standard stereo system has cassette and CD player. Sound is pretty impressive.
My wife had a car accident( front impact at 50 miles per hour), and Pilot performed really great, nobody got hurt. Repairs were 16 K, paid by State Farm. As result we have 2004 front end, which I like way better than the original one.
We have Pilot for 2 years now and I am happy with it. Highly recommend!
