Pros: Prestone Super Sealer does what it claims resolving my thirsty radiator and engine heat problems.
Cons: If your radiator is shot, or you have loose hoses, this won't work.
One thing you don't want to see on your car's instrument panel is the engine heat guage suddenly working it's way into the red zone! An overheated engine can spell death. However, worse than that is when you have filled the radiator and still find that your car's engine temperature gauge is running towards the red.
Why Did I Buy It
The last time I went to get another gallon of Antifreeze, I noticed on the shelf above a smaller set of containers for Prestone Super Radiator Sealer. Since I had not noticed any antifreeze under my car, I thought that maybe my problem was smaller leaks in my radiator. The radiator was only about a year old, and I knew there was no major leak, because I always check under the car when I fill the radiator. A large leak would let the fluid out like a seive. I also checked all the valves to make sure they were in good condition, and attached securely. I always place the radiator cap on tightly and securely. If my problem was indeed small leaks why not try this product which states in bold letters SEALS LARGE LEAKS
The 14.5 ounce container of Prestone Super Sealer was only $4.99, a lot cheaper than an expensive trip to the mechanic, and certainly cheaper than a new radiator. What did I have to lose?
Instructions for Use
When your engine is cool, simply open your radiator cap, shake this bottle up, and pour the entire contents into your radiator. Follow it up with antifreeze, filling your radiator. Run the engine for 10 minutes to check for leaks. I saw none.
I had this in about a week ago. Whatever was causing my engine to overheat so easily seems to have been repaired. I have not had to fill the radiator with more radiator fluid, and my engine temperature light stays comfortably in the middle of the guage, never even traversing over to the right towards the dreaded red zone.
Warnings for Idiots
The instructions for use are clear enough even for the stupidest of people warning you not to drink this or get it into your eyes. Most importantly it cautions you to add the Super Sealer fluid only AFTER your car engine is cool. I have seen many people try to take a radiator cap off too soon with unpleasant results. My father gave me instructions on changing radiator fluid back in my teenage driving years, and it is a lesson I've remembered all my life.
I was very pleased with the results of this Prestone Super Radiator Sealer. For only $4.99, it seems to have done the trick, and resolved my radiator problems. If you have already checked your hoses, and your radiator isn't completely blown, this could be your ideal solution. My car has been running well. I gave this easy to use affordable and effective product five stars!
